AIM
■ Bridges are that type of important structure. When a road needs to extend across a
river, valley, passing on top of obstacles or solve traffic a bridge is built to connect the
two land masses. Since the average car cannot swim or fly, the bridge makes it
possible for automobiles to continue driving from one land mass to another.
■ In the field of bridge construction, the significance of T-beam bridge decks
have been increased due to its higher performance to carry live loads. It is a load
bearing structure of reinforced concrete, wood or metal, with a T shaped cross
section. The top of the T-shaped cross section serves as a flange or compression
member in resisting compressive stresses. The web of the beam below the
compression flange serves to resist shear stress and to provide greater separation
for the coupled forces of bending. Now conventional bridge types are being replaced
by prestressed bridges because of their cost efficiency, better stability and
serviceability. These Prestressed bridge types are using a unique technique which
avoids tension due to concrete weakness. Designs per IS 13920-2016 satisfy all
provisions of IS 456-2000 and IS 13920-2016 for beams and columns (Refer to D8.E. Indian
Codes - Concrete Design per IS 456) and IS 1893-2002.
objective
■ LITERATURE REVIEW
■ R. Shreedhar (2012) The object of the paper the simple span of T-beam bridge was
analyzed by use I.R.C. loadings as a one dimensional structure and same analyzed
as a three- dimensional structure using finite element plate for the deck slab and
beam elements for the main beam using software STAAD ProV8i. Both models are
subjected to I.R.C. Loadings to produce maximum bending moment. The results
obtained from the finite element model are lesser than the results obtained from
one dimensional analysis, that means the results from manual calculations
subjected to IRC loadings are conservative.
■ Praful N K (2015) In this paper we studied that bridge is a structure providing
passage for a road, a railway, pedestrians, a canal or a pipeline. . A simple span T-
beam bridge was analyzed by using I.R.C. loadings as a one dimensional structure
using rational methods and same T-beam bridge is analyzed as a three dimensional
structure using finite element plate for the deck slab and beam elements for the
main beam using software , three different span of 16m, 20m and 24m was
analyzed. Both FEM and 1D models where subjected to I.R.C. Loadings to produce
maximum bending moment, Shear force and similarly deflection in structure was
analysed. The results obtained from the finite element are lesser than the results
obtained from one dimensional analysis, that means the results obtained from
manual calculations subjected to IRC loadings are conservative.
