Lab - Print Services Role

Getting started
Virtual Machines RWDC01, SERVER01

 Username: Administrator
 Password: Password01

In this lab you will implement a print services server role for the management of printers,
print servers.

Installing Print Management role on SERVER01
1. Log on using the administrator account

2. Install Print & Document Services role

3. Log onto RWDC01

4. Create a user account called student, password: Password01

5. Install Print & Document Services role

6. Open Print Management,

7. Expand Print Servers roles, right click RWDC01(local), and Add Printer

8. Select Add A New Printer Using An Existing Port option, select LPT1, click
next, install a new driver

9. The Printer Driver page appears click next, the Printer Installation page appears.

10. In the Manufacturer list, select Generic

11. In the Printer List select MS Publisher Color Printer, and click next.

12. In the Printer Name and Sharing Settings, type in MSColourDC in the printer
Name Text box, and in the Share Name type in MSColourDC, click next

A. Why is the wizard able to install the printer when an actual print device is
not connected to the computer?

13. Click Finish after the printer has installed

14. Repeat the process to install 2 more printers with the following settings:

Port: LPT2, Manufacturer: Generic, Printer: MS Publisher Imagesetter. Printer


Name: MSMonoDC, Share Name: MSMonoDC

Port: LPT3, Manufacturer: Generic, Printer: MS Publisher Imagesetter. Printer


Name: MSMono2DC, Share Name: MSMono2DC

Use existing printer driver on the computer MS Publisher Color printer

Deploying Printers Using Active Directory

1. Note what printers are currently installed on SERVER01.

2. On RWDC01 in the Print Management console, list MSColorDC in Active


Directory.

3. Right-click MSMonoDC printer, select Deploy with Group Policy.

4. Click Browse

5. Select Default Domain Policy, click OK.

6. Select the checkbox for The Computers That This GPO Applies To (Per
Machine), and The users that this GPO applies to and click Add, click OK.

7. Repeat steps 3-6 for the MSMono2DC

8. Restart SERVER01

B. After doing steps 2 -5, why would you need to restart 643Server?

11. Click Start > control panel>hardware>device & printers

12. Click Next to Connect to MSColorDC printer

Scheduling Printer Access on SERVER01

1. Logon as Administrator

2. Open Print Management and Create a second Printer for MS Publisher Color
Printer, use the following settings:

3. Port: LPT1, Printer Driver: MS Publisher Color Printer, Manufacturer:


Generic, Printer: MS Publisher Color Printer, Printer Name: MSColour-PM,
Share Name: MSColour-PM (use and existing driver)

4. RWDC01

5. Open Printers, right-click MSColourDC printer, select Properties >


Advanced tab

6. Select Available From, 9:00AM to 5:00PM, click Apply

7. In the Security Tab add the Domain Users group to the Group Or User
Names List, grant Allow Print permissions to the group

8. Remove Everyone special identity from the Group Or Users Names list, click
OK

9. Open MSColour-PM Property page, change the priority value to 99, click
Apply

10. Add the Domains Admin group to the Group Users Names list, give Allow
Print permissions, Manage Printers and Manage Documents

11. Remove the Everyone special identity from the Group or Users Names list

Managing Queued Print Job using SERVER01


1. In the Print Management console add printer server RWDC01, open
properties page for MSMonoDC, click Sharing tab.

2. Clear the Render Print Jobs On Client Computers checkbox, click Apply

3. Click Advanced tab

4. Select the Start Printing After Last Page Is Spooled option.

5. Select Hold Mismatched Document checkbox, click OK

6. Open Internet Explorer, (command bar will need to be selected first) click the
down arrow next to the Printer icon button

7. click Print, select MSMonoDC

8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 two more times.

9. In Print Management expand your server node

10. Right click the printers node for RWDC01, select Show Extended View
