Introduction:
We have collected the heights of 100 students to find average height by formulating
hypothesis through a technique called z-test. It can be defined as a statistical test to determine
whether two population means are different when the variances are known and the sample
size is large. A z-test is a hypothesis test in which the z-statistic follows a normal distribution.
A z-statistic, or z-score, is a number representing the result from the z-test. In other words, Z-
test is any statistical test for which the distribution of the test statistic under the null
hypothesis can be approximated by a normal distribution. We use them when we wish to
compare the sample mean μ to the population mean μ0. Z-scores are useful in practice
because they can: be applied to the individual or population; pinpoint any given weight and
height.
Statement:
A random sample of 100 students is taken from a government graduate college for women,
with a standard deviation 0.3105 and 5.1 mean. Verify sports teacher claim that the heights of
students should not decrease to 4.6 at 0.05 level of confidence.
Given Data:
Formulation of a hypothesis:
h 0; μ = 5
hi ; μ ≠ 5
Level of significance:
α = 0.05
Test Statistics:
As, the population is large and 'σ' is known. So, z-test will be applied.
Critical region:
Reject h 0 if p value< ¿ α.
PROCEDURE
Calculation
z- value = 3.22
p- value = 0.001
