Nelson's design transformed the traditional sofa into a three-dimensional pattern

consisting of 18 brightly-coloured sections of upholstery, supported by a simple steel
structure. This unusual shape and construction make Marshmallow Sofa one of design
history's more unusual sofas. An extension element consisting of six individual
cushions can be mounted between two sofas, allowing sofa to be extended as

 Freeform Sofa & Ottoman-
Isamu Noguchi

Two examples of Noguchi's predilection for sculptural lines are his

Freeform Sofa and Ottoman, the shapes of which are reminiscent of
river pebbles. Noguchi himself described his design as "soft rock".
Thanks to its organic shape and the natural tones of its upholstery
fabric the sofa has a light, elegant feel, despite its voluminous form.

• Armchair with wooden frame, upholstered with a new multi-colour fabric
designed by Alessandro Mendini. Created in 1978 for the Palazzo dei
Diamanti in Ferrara, Proust was immediately recognized as an icon of
twentieth century design and one of the most renowned and essential
reference points in the quest for form and aesthetic perfection.
Cappellini inherited the piece in 1993 and today Proust Geometrica,
upholstered and hand-finished according to tradition, preserves the
forms of the original armchair while refreshing them and breathing new
life into the image and value of the original design.

Lotus and Low Lotus. Made from Cristalplant, a new composite
material that’s snow-white, as hard as marble, soft to the touch and
easy to clean.
The design of the Lotus and Low Lotus stretches the frontiers of this
material to its limits. The way in which the moulded tablet flows into
the shell is only possible with this sort of composite material. The
central stainless-steel base with its four slim legs emphasises the
sloping shape of the shell. 95

The fauteuil as art. This classic design by Pierre
Paulin dates from 1966 and is as comfortable as
it is unique. The Ribbon features a metal frame
with horizontal springs covered with foam and
stretch fabric. The base is made of lacquered
pressed wood. The Ribbon is exhibited in the
National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne and the
Museum of Modern Art in New York.
