1. Technical Questions: These questions assess your knowledge of electrical and electronic systems,
troubleshooting skills, and familiarity with relevant regulations and standards. Some examples include:
- Can you explain the operation of a specific electrical system on a ship?
- How would you troubleshoot a malfunctioning generator?
- What is the difference between AC and DC power systems?
- How do you ensure electrical safety on board a ship?
2. Experience and Skills: Interviewers may ask about your previous work experience, specific projects you have
worked on, and the skills you have developed. They may ask questions like:
- Can you provide an example of a challenging electrical problem you have solved in the past?
- What experience do you have with specific types of electrical equipment or systems?
- How do you stay updated with the latest developments in the field of marine electrical systems?
3. Safety and Regulations: ETOs need to have a strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations in the
maritime industry. Interviewers may ask questions related to:
- How do you ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations on board?
- What would you do in case of an electrical emergency on a ship?
- How do you conduct electrical inspections to ensure safety standards are met?
4. Behavioral Questions: These questions assess your interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and how you
handle various situations. Examples include:
- Can you describe a time when you had to work under pressure to solve an electrical issue?
- How do you prioritize tasks when multiple electrical systems require maintenance simultaneously?
- How do you handle conflicts or disagreements with colleagues in a team environment?
5. Scenario-based Questions: Interviewers may present you with hypothetical scenarios related to electrical
systems on ships and ask how you would respond. This helps them gauge your problem-solving skills and
decision-making abilities in real-life situations.
It's essential to prepare thoroughly for an ETO interview by reviewing your technical knowledge, understanding industry
regulations, and practicing how to articulate your experiences and skills effectively.

What are the interview questions for the post ETO in the Anglo Eastern company?
Read this book : Practical Marine Electrical Knowledge by DT Hall. You will be able to cover most topics. Brush up on
your basics. Refer BLT for that. Read about topics like :
1. Motors : types, construction, principle of working, application depending on type, marine application, motor
starters (DOL / star delta / auto-transformer), maintenance (insulation testing / winding resistance / overhaul).
2. Generator / Alternator : principle, construction, safeties. Brushless alternator.
8. Various measuring instruments : Multimeter, insulation tester, leakage clamp meters etc.
9. Cables : construction, type, rating. How do you determine which cable to choose (type / thickness / rating /
length) , if you know the wattage of equipment to be installed, fuse rating and voltage ? High voltage cables.
10. Semiconductor electronic components : various types, method of testing of diode / transistor etc.
11. Other topics : PCB, PLC, control tech (PID), frequency control : VFD, soft starter, transformers, sensors
(pressure / temperature / level)
These topics should cover for your interview. This is what i would ask from. I won’t expect you to be perfect but atleast
point me in the right direction , considering that you are a fresher BE / Diploma in Electrical / ECE.
PS : I am assuming that you mean entrance interview for ETO course in a marine college and not for a fresher /
experienced ETO applying for a job in a company.
