Quarter 3 – Module 6:
Finding Elapsed Time
Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM] is prepared so that you, our dear
learners, can continue your studies and learn while at home.
Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are
carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you
step-by step as you discover and understand the lesson prepared
for you.
Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons
in each SLM. This will tell you if you need to proceed on completing
this module or if you need to ask your facilitator or your teacher's
assistance for better understanding of the lesson. At the end of
each module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check your
learning. Answer keys are provided for each activity and test. We
trust that you will be honest in using these.
In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teacher
are also provided to our facilitators and parents for strategies and
reminders on how they can best help you on your home-based
learning.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks
on any part of this SLM. use a separate sheet of paper in answering
the exercises and tests. And read the instructions carefully before
performing each task.
If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in
answering the tasks in this module, do not hesitate to consult your
teacher or facilitator.
Thank You.

What I Need to Know
Good day learner! You already know how to find the missing
element in a pattern and number sequence. This time, let’s make
it more challenging. In this module, you will learn how to find the
elapsed time in minutes and seconds. You will also estimate the
duration of time in minutes and solve problems involving elapsed
time.
What I Know
1. Annie arrived at the mall at 2:50 p.m. She left home at 2:05
pm. It took 45 minutes for Annie to arrive at the mall.
2. Mang Cardo began to pick tomatoes at 7:15 a.m. and finished
at 7:55 a.m. He picked tomatoes for 45 minutes.
3. Andre joined a fun run. The fun run started at 6:00 a.m. and
ended at 6:50 a.m. The fun run lasted for 50 minutes.
4. Ron comes to school early. He arrives at 7:05 a.m. If the class
begins at 7:30 am., he is 20 minutes earlier everyday.
1
5. Tina went to a bookstore to buy art materials. She left their
house at 8:10 a.m. She returned home at 8:53 a.m. It took 43
minutes for Tina to return to their house.

Hello learner! It’s good to be with you going on with our new
lesson. This lesson shows you how to find the elapsed time in
minutes and in seconds. It is made up of activities that will
challenge you to use different ways of finding the elapsed time.
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
find the elapsed time in minutes and seconds (M4ME-
IIIf-11).

Directions: Please read and analyze the given problem. Write your
answer on a sheet of paper.
3
What is It
Let us see if we got the same answer. You can get the answer
by finding the elapsed time.
You can also count the number of minutes from the time Aliyah
started cooking to the time she finished cooking by using a
chart.
4
Try also subtracting 4:10 from 4:50
4:50 Think 4:50 as 4 hours and 50 minutes.
4:10 Think 4:10 as 4 hours and 10 minutes.
0:40 Then, subtract the time when the event
started from the time the event ended.
Elapsed time: 40 minutes.
Now that you already know how to find the elapsed time, you
may now proceed for the next activities!

To find the elapsed time, you can use the following:
1. Use a number line.
2. Count the number of seconds or minutes by using a chart.
3. Subtract the time when the event started from the time the event
ended.
What I Can Do
Let us see if you are now ready to solve the following problem.
1.Kim gets to school at 6:45 a.m. She left home at 6:15 a.m. How
long did it take him to get to school?
3.Mark began eating his snack at 9:05 a.m. and finished at 9:20
a.m. How long did it take him to eat his snack?
4.Lara jogs at the park every morning. She starts to jog at 6:15
a.m. If she finishes at 6:48 a.m., how long does she jog every
morning?

Lesson
Estimating the Elapsed Time
2
When we find the elapsed time, we always find for the actual
elapsed time. But if we want to get an answer that is close enough
but not the actual one, then we need to estimate the elapsed time.
In this lesson, you will learn how to estimate the duration of
time in minutes (M4ME-lllf-12).
What’s New
10
What is It
Step 1. Round the minutes in the time ended and time started to
tens.
Step 2. Subtract.
