Function Project

The document groups and analyzes different types of mathematical functions including rational, exponential, and others. It specifically examines three functions in detail: a square function, a linear function, and a quadratic function. These three functions intersect at the point (1,1) despite being different types.

FUNCTIONS PROJECT

Not all these equations are rational functions. Some of them have multiple coordinates on a horizontal
and vertical line. The rational functions in this table are coloured green.

I chose to group these equations like this –

I chose these functions to look at in more detail

o y=√ x

Roots: (0,0)
Y intercept: (0,0)
This is a square function.
Domain: {x / x ≥0 } Range: { y / y ≥ 0 }

o x +2 y−3=0

Roots: (3,0)
Y intercept: (0,0)
Gradient: 0.5x
Domain: {x / x ∈ R } Range: { y / y ∈ R }
This is a linear function
2
o y=x

Roots: (0,0)
Y intercept: (0,0)
This is a quadratic function
Domain: {x / x ∈ R } Range: { y / y ≥ 0 }

All three of these graphs intersect

on the point (1,1). This is
interesting because they are all
different types of graphs.
The linear equation also intersects
the quadratic equation at the point
(1.5,2.25). The quadratic and the
square function also intersect at
the point (0,0).
All the graphs won’t intersect
again as they are infinite.
