University Alliance of the Silk Road

Summer Camp Introduction

In January 2015, Xian Jiaotong University (XJTU) initiated the University Alliance of Silk Road
(UASR) together with its partner universities. This alliance is committed to providing effective
solutions for human development, and has become an important cooperation platform for cultural
and educational exchanges, as well as for talent development along the Silk Road routes.
Based on the alliance, XJTU organizes 2024 summer camp to provide a platform for students from
around the world who would like to learn about traditional Chinese culture and its modern
development.
The summer camp’s programme primarily includes Chinese language courses, academic
lectures, visits to enterprises, Chinese cultural activities, and opportunities for interaction with both
domestic Chinese and international students on campus. Through these activities, participants can
deepen their understanding of Chinese Culture, gain insights into various academic topics, and make
international connections. It is hoped that the knowledge and skills acquired in the summer camp will
be valuable throughout the lives of the participants.

Eligibility

1. Applicants are requested to submit a scanned copy of their valid foreign ordinary passport.
2. Applications are welcomed from individuals aged between 16 and 30 years old.
3. Applicants are expected to be in good physical and mental health.

Application Documents

Please provide the following application materials as required:

1. Photocopy of your passport;

2. Curriculum vitae (CV);


3. Notarized copies of your high school academic transcripts;

4. Behavior Record issued by your current high school or university;


5. Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (Please download the form at
http://sie.xjtu.edu.cn/en/2.pdf and complete it in either Chinese or English. Applicants must undergo
all the examination as required by the form. Incomplete forms, or those without the doctor’s
suggestion, signature, or the hospital’s seal, will be considered invalid. The physical examination
results are valid for six months.)

Introduction to XJTU
XJTU, founded in 1896, originated as Nanyang College in Shanghai. As one of the earliest
institutions of higher education in China, XJTU enjoys a long history and a world-renowned
reputation. It is a national key university directly administered by the Ministry of Education (MoE)
of China.
XJTU is a comprehensive research university with 11 major categories of disciplines: science,
engineering, medicine, economics, management, humanities, law, philosophy, art, education, and
interdisciplinary study. It comprises 32 schools, 9 colleges for undergraduates, and 3 affiliated
hospitals.
The university currently has 54,760 full-time students, including 22,407 undergraduates, 29,285
postgraduates, and 3,068 international students. XJTU offers 76 undergraduate majors, has 36 first-
level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, and 43 disciplines authorized to confer
master’s degrees.
According to statistics released by Essential Science Indicators (ESI) in 2023, XJTU’s
engineering programmes are ranked in the top 1‱. Additionally, 17 other disciplines are ranked in
the top 1% and 5 disciplines are ranked in the top 1‰ on the ESI list. The Management School and
Law School at XJTU have received QS Five Stars accreditation. XJTU offers undergraduate,
master’s, doctoral, and visiting scholar programmes in its key disciplines and has enrolled
international students from all over the world.

Introduction to The School of International Education, XJTU

Founded in 2006, the School of International Education (SIE) oversees the administrative affairs
of international students at XJTU. The SIE develops and implements university-level policies for
international students and is responsible for their admission, management, accommodation, and the
coordination of their academic studies.
XJTU is one of the first universities designated by MOE to enroll international students under
the Chinese Government Scholarship program. XJTU’s international education can be traced back to
1955, and since then, XJTU has educated thousands of international students from around the world.
In 2013, in recognition of its outstanding education, XJTU was awarded the title of the
“Demonstration Bases for International Education in China” by MOE. In 2016, XJTU passed the
first national quality certification for studying in China with excellent results.
As of 2023, there were a total of 3,068 International students from 130 countries studying at
XJTU, among whom 2,906 were degree-pursuing students, including 1,142 undergraduates, 863
master’s and 901 doctoral students.
In addition, XJTU has established Confucius Institutes in collaboration with the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln in the U.S., the University of Liverpool in England, and Yamanashi Gakuin
University in Japan, respectively.
