Institute of Philippine Culture’s Study on Philippine Values

The Institute of Philippine Culture

The Institute of Philippine Culture (IPC) is a Center of the School of


Social Sciences of the Ateneo de Manila University which has
conducted research into socio-economic development since 1960. It
aim of assisting the most disadvantage groups in Asia to an
improved quality of life.

The Role of Interpersonal Relations in Philippine Culture

Pakikisama is having and maintaining good public relations.


Hiya is describe as a feeling of lowliness, shame or embarrassment,
and inhibition or shyness which is experienced as somewhat
distressing.
Amor Propio comes from the person’s tendency to protect his or her
dignity and honor.
Utang na Loob is likewise fundamental aspect of upholding group
harmony and relationships that demand the balancing of obligations
and depts.
Filipino Hospitality refers to the innate ability and trait of Filipinos
to be courteous and entertaining to their guests.
Respect for elders, Filipinos are not only respectful to elders, but
also have unique ways of expressing this respect to elders.
