Course Objectives:
The course is intended to impart knowledge on engineering fundamentals of DC&AC circuits,
Electrical machines, Electron devices, Carpentry and plumbing.
Module I 22 Hours
Fundamentals of DC Circuits: Definition, symbol and unit of quantities – Active and Passive
elements – Ohm’s Law: statement, – Kirchhoff’s Laws: statement and illustration – Resistance in
series and voltage division rule – Resistance in parallel and current division rule – Star to Delta
and Delta to Star transformation- circuit simplification.
AC Fundamentals: Magnetic Circuits: Definition of magnetic quantities – Law of
electromagnetic induction – Generation of single phase alternating EMF – Terminology – 3
Phase System: 3-Wire and 4 Wire system – Root Mean Square (RMS) – Average value of AC
DC Machines: DC Generator and DC Motor: Construction, Working Principle.
Module II 23 Hours
AC Machines: Single phase transformer: Construction, working principle - Single phase
induction motor: Capacitor start and run -Three phase induction motor: An introduction.
Semiconductor Devices: Theory of Semiconductor: PN junction diode, Forward Bias
Conduction, Reverse Bias Conduction, V-I Characteristics – Bipolar Junction Transistor:
Operation of NPN and PNP Transistor, Common Emitter Configuration – MOSFET:
construction and working principle.

1) Identification of resistor and capacitor values
2) Soldering practice of simple circuit and checking the continuity
3) Fluorescent tube, staircase and house wiring
4) Characteristics of PN Diode
Civil & Mechanical:
1) Make a wooden Tee joint to the required dimension
2) Make a tray in sheet metal to the required dimension
3) Assemble the pipeline connections with different joining components for the given layout
