IE415 Laboratory Experiment - 2 Simple Reaction Time

The document describes a laboratory experiment on simple reaction time conducted by students. It involved measuring reaction times of participants from different age groups to visual stimuli. The experiment aimed to understand how factors like age and color affect response times. Results were analyzed statistically and discussed in relation to existing research on human information processing and reaction times.

LABORATORY EXPERIMENT #2

Course Code IE415

Course Title Ergonomics 2: Cognitive Ergonomics
Section
Semester Second Semester, AY 2023-2024
Date
Student Name
Instructor Engr. Jerald M. Fernandez

Experiment Title SIMPLE REACTION TIME

Category Group Report #1
I. OBJECTIVES

1. To have a deeper understanding of the human information processing through conducting

experiment concerning visual stimuli.
2. To determine how fast the subject will respond to a given stimuli – color.
3. To determine how age and color affects the length of response time.

II. METHODOLOGIES

A. Subject Profile (discuss here the profile/information about your respondents; there
should be four respondents from each of the three age brackets).

B. Materials and Equipment (discuss every materials and equipment whether physical
objects or software used)

Software Used:
1. DesignTools Software (Free Download: Simple Reaction Time)

2. MS Excel and/or MINITAB for Data Analysis

C. Procedure (discuss here the steps you made in order to perform the experiment, number
of respondents selected, how they are selected, how many trials, manner of conduct of
experimentation, location, briefing etc. )

1. Select at least four (4) participants from three (3) different age brackets.
2. Ask the participant to comfortably sit in front of your device/gadget (one at a time;
maintain conducive working learning environment for the task).
3. Open the DesignTool application, in particular, Simple Reaction Time exercise.
Explain how to perform task.
4. Make a screenshot of the results as part of our data reference in the appendix part.
Assist the participants if necessary.
5. Complete the data collection from all the selected participants.
6. Record and summarize the data.
7. Prepare your Laboratory Report.
III.RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS:

1. Results of the Study

Present and discuss the summary table. (This is just an example, present data based on the
number of your respondents).

2. Evaluation of Results (present table of solutions, graphs, interpret, analyze)

Perform a two-factor analysis.
 You may state your hypothesis
 Screenshot of MS Excel/ Minitab Result

3. Discussion of Results
(Discuss here the output/outcome based on the statistical analysis)
IV. QUESTIONS:

1. Read the article in this site https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnhum.2015.00193/full.

How can you relate the outcome of your experiment to the findings discussed?

2. If given more opportunity to increase the number of respondents, what do you think will be the
effect in the result?

3. Overall, what are the factors that affects the simple reaction time?
V. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
VI. INDIVIDUAL LEARNING POINT (how it can be applied to daily lives and industrial work setup)
VII. APPENDICES
a. Raw Data Screenshots
