In the operating condition idle to partial load (compressor not switched on, bypass valve (22) open, vacuum in
the intake area), a mixture of blow-by gases (B) and fresh air (A) is drawn from the crankcase (12) via the oil
separator space (11a) in the power steering pump carrier (11), the vent line (10), the check valve partial load
ventilation (6a) and the throttles (6) in the cylinder head into the combustion chambers. Separated engine oil
runs out of the oil separator space (11a) via a drain bore and the oil return pipe (13) back into the oil pan (14).
Fresh air is drawn via the air filter housing (1), the full load vent line (2), the spiral oil separator (3) and the
cylinder head cover (5) into the crankcase.
The addition of fresh air (A) is an additional measure against engine oil sludging.
If the intake duct is oiled up, it must be thoroughly cleaned along with the charge air cooler. In addition, the
partial load vent check valve (6a) must be replaced.

In the operating condition partial load to full load (compressor (18) switched on, bypass valve (22) closed,
pressure relief in the intake area), a mixture of blow-by gases (B) are passed via the cylinder head cover (5), the
spiral oil separator (3), the full load vent line (2), the air filter housing (1) and the intake area of the combustion
chambers. So that fresh air (A) (additional gas volume, thus additional oil volume) is not forced through the
intake area and the throttles (6) of the partial load ventilation into the crankcase, a check valve (6a) is installed.
When the compressor (18) is switched on, the check valve (6a) closes off the vent line (10) for partial load
ventilation.
If the intake duct is oiled up, it must be thoroughly cleaned along with the charge air cooler. In addition, the
partial load vent check valve (6a) must be replaced.

The blow-by gas (B) mixed with engine oil (A) together with the compressed fresh air (C) enters via the line
(2b) from the compressor upstream of the spiral separator (3) and is passed to the center point of the spiral
separator. As the spiral diameter decreases, the centrifugal force increases.
The additional compressed fresh air (C) from the compressor causes a higher gas speed in the spiral oil
separator (3) and thus increases the centrifugal force.
Engine oil (A) separates due to the higher specific weight at the outer walls of the spiral, where it then runs off
to the ground and is pushed towards the center point by the continuous gas flow.
The engine oil (A) from the oil pan is returned via a drain bore (3b) and oil return line (23).
So that the engine oil can be drawn off via the oil dipstick guide tube, a check valve is fitted in the spiral oil
separator.

By means of crankcase ventilation, the blow-by gases are returned to the combustion chambers. A distinction is
made between idle to partial load ventilation and partial load to full load ventilation.
