I. Introduction

1. About MD-VIDEO
MD-VIDEO is a digital forensic software tool that supports recovery and analysis of active, deleted, and
corrupted videos from various sources such as mobile phones, dashcams, CCTV cameras, and others and
reconstructs filesystem. By combining artificial intelligence (AI) analysis features with digital forensic
technology, MD-VIDEO supports object recognition, classification, and frame enhancement. Some of the major
features are as follows.

 Forensic Analysis of Video Data from Various Storage Devices

MD-VIDEO extracts, recovers, and analyzes the multimedia files saved in a variety of storage devices from
different manufacturers. More than 150 mobile phones, dashcams, CCTVs, and DVRs of global
manufacturers are supported.

 Support for a Variety of Recovery Targets

MD-VIDEO recovers DD, E01, BIN, MDF dump images extracted from personal computers (PC), mobile
phones, and memory devices. It also recovers from logical drives mounted on PC and supports various
video files such as mpg, mp4, avi, and others.

 Video Frame Recovery

MD-VIDEO recovers deleted video frames. A video file can be created out of these frames by rearranging
the sequence. It makes frames into a single image or extracts them as a separate image.

 Anomaly/Object Detection through AI Analysis

MD-VIDEO recognizes objects and classifies them via object recognition feature. It can also detect
anomalies, scenes or frames that significantly deviate from the quantified feature points. A video scene can
be created directly by combining and condensing frames of the choice. MD-VIDEO recognizes objects,
areas, and colors included in frames. Based on this data, it provides a filtering feature that allows users to
easily select the data they want.

 Frame Image Enhancement

MD-VIDEO provides users editing tools to enhance analyzed frames. Editing tools allow user to enhance
images or videos using ‘Super Resolution,’ ‘Motion Deblur,’ ‘Perspective Transform,’ and many more
features.

Introduction 1
 OCR (Optical Character Recognition)

OCR feature recognizes and analyzes letters, timestamps, and channel information within the frames. It
analyzes information that is not saved in the frame information, which is the output of the frame itself.

 Number Plate Restoration

MD-VIDEO restores the selected number plate of various countries using machine learning based models.
It predicts and displays various probabilities of numbers of a number plate which are hard-to-identify.

3-3 Partial Recovery
‘Partial Recovery’ performs recovery partially on the selected region only.

3-3-1 Home
'Partial Recovery' is used when complete recovery results are not available because of the following reasons:
 Filesystem analysis is not working.
 Filesystem analysis is successful but the size of the unused area is too large to recover.

Codecs supported in partial recovery are listed under ‘Supported codec’ as shown in the Figure II-28 below.
The frames are recovered only if the timestamp information is available in respective frames.
Click [Next] to go to the next step 'Evidence Scan.'

① Select icon from the editing toolbar.

② Select the ‘Model’ and ‘Scale’ in the ‘Settings’ area and click [Convert].
The following models are available for ‘Super Resolution’:
▪ SRGAN: It is useful to enhance low-quality images with noises. Only available in GPU-enabled
environment.
▪ EDSR: The performance is highly efficient but may take a long time if enabled in the CPU environment.
It is recommended in GPU environment.
▪ ESPCN: The speed is the fastest with performance similar or slightly lower than that of FSRCNN.
▪ FSRCNN: The speed is relatively fast, and the performance is similar or slightly higher than ESPCN.

5-8 Lens Distortions

‘Lens Distortions’ helps to correct a convex picture frame that is resulted from camera lens.

Figure IV-27 Editing Tool – Lens Distortions

① Select icon from the editing toolbar.

② Adjust radial and tangential distortion values. The more severe the distortion, the larger the value
required to correct.

▪ You can adjust by:

 Entering the values directly.
 Pressing up/down arrow keys to increase/decrease the value by 1.
 Move the slider to the left/right.

▪ Radial Distortion: Occur due to the lens shape. The farther from the center of the frame, the more
distorted it becomes in the form of a circle.
 K1, K2: Indicate ratio of distortion.

▪ Tangential Distortion: Occur when camera lens and image recognition sensor are not perfectly
parallel to each other. The farther it gets from the center of the frame, the more distorted it becomes
in the form of an ellipse.
 P1, P2: Indicate ratio of scope.

③ Click [Apply] to save the effect in ‘History.’

5-9 Deinterlace

‘Deinterlace’ corrects an interlaced picture that looks fuzzy due to a series of lines visible in the frame.
Interlacing is a technique designed to increase data transfer speed by displaying half of the image, that is odd-
numbered horizontal lines and even-number horizontal lines alternatively.
