1. About MD-VIDEO
MD-VIDEO is a digital forensic software tool that supports recovery and analysis of active, deleted, and
corrupted videos from various sources such as mobile phones, dashcams, CCTV cameras, and others and
reconstructs filesystem. By combining artificial intelligence (AI) analysis features with digital forensic
technology, MD-VIDEO supports object recognition, classification, and frame enhancement. Some of the major
features are as follows.
MD-VIDEO extracts, recovers, and analyzes the multimedia files saved in a variety of storage devices from
different manufacturers. More than 150 mobile phones, dashcams, CCTVs, and DVRs of global
manufacturers are supported.
MD-VIDEO recovers DD, E01, BIN, MDF dump images extracted from personal computers (PC), mobile
phones, and memory devices. It also recovers from logical drives mounted on PC and supports various
video files such as mpg, mp4, avi, and others.
MD-VIDEO recovers deleted video frames. A video file can be created out of these frames by rearranging
the sequence. It makes frames into a single image or extracts them as a separate image.
MD-VIDEO recognizes objects and classifies them via object recognition feature. It can also detect
anomalies, scenes or frames that significantly deviate from the quantified feature points. A video scene can
be created directly by combining and condensing frames of the choice. MD-VIDEO recognizes objects,
areas, and colors included in frames. Based on this data, it provides a filtering feature that allows users to
easily select the data they want.
MD-VIDEO provides users editing tools to enhance analyzed frames. Editing tools allow user to enhance
images or videos using ‘Super Resolution,’ ‘Motion Deblur,’ ‘Perspective Transform,’ and many more
features.
Introduction 1
OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
OCR feature recognizes and analyzes letters, timestamps, and channel information within the frames. It
analyzes information that is not saved in the frame information, which is the output of the frame itself.
MD-VIDEO restores the selected number plate of various countries using machine learning based models.
It predicts and displays various probabilities of numbers of a number plate which are hard-to-identify.

② Adjust the level of ‘Density,’ ‘Color,’ and other options to apply to filters.
You can adjust by:
Entering the values directly.
Pressing up/down arrow keys to increase/decrease the value by 1.
Move the slider to the left/right.
▪ Density: Change the color brightness.
Brightness: The higher the level is the brighter it becomes. Higher brightness values make the
image whiter, and lower values make image darker.
Contrast: The higher the level, the clearer the difference between two tones of brightness.
Enhancement 92
Gamma: Default value is set as 1. With higher gamma values, picture gets darker. The picture gets
brighter with lower gamma values.
▪ Color: Adjust the value of RGB to change color.
R: The higher the level, the redder it becomes. The lower the level, the greener it becomes
(complementary color of red).
G: The higher the level, the greener it becomes. The lower the level, the more magenta it becomes
(complementary color of green).
B: The higher the level, the bluer it becomes. The lower the level, the more yellow it becomes
(complementary color of blue).
▪ Others
Edge Sharpening: Adjust the level of sharpening. Navigate the slider to the right to sharpen the
outlines between the objects.
Noise Reduction: Adjust the level of noise. Navigate the slider to the right to reduce noises.
Opacity: Adjust the level of transparency. Navigate the slider to the left/right to decrease/increase

③ Select the four corners of the number plate on the canvas and click [Apply].
Enhancement 95
5-7 Super Resolution
‘Super Resolution’ converts low resolution image into higher one based on a scale of 2 to 4.
② Select the ‘Model’ and ‘Scale’ in the ‘Settings’ area and click [Convert].
The following models are available for ‘Super Resolution’:
▪ SRGAN: It is useful to enhance low-quality images with noises. Only available in GPU-enabled
environment.
▪ EDSR: The performance is highly efficient but may take a long time if enabled in the CPU environment.
It is recommended in GPU environment.
▪ ESPCN: The speed is the fastest with performance similar or slightly lower than that of FSRCNN.
▪ FSRCNN: The speed is relatively fast, and the performance is similar or slightly higher than ESPCN.
Enhancement 96
5-8 Lens Distortions
‘Lens Distortions’ helps to correct a convex picture frame that is resulted from camera lens.
② Adjust radial and tangential distortion values. The more severe the distortion, the larger the value
required to correct.
▪ Radial Distortion: Occur due to the lens shape. The farther from the center of the frame, the more
distorted it becomes in the form of a circle.
K1, K2: Indicate ratio of distortion.
▪ Tangential Distortion: Occur when camera lens and image recognition sensor are not perfectly
parallel to each other. The farther it gets from the center of the frame, the more distorted it becomes
in the form of an ellipse.
P1, P2: Indicate ratio of scope.

Enhancement 98
5-9 Deinterlace
‘Deinterlace’ corrects an interlaced picture that looks fuzzy due to a series of lines visible in the frame.
Interlacing is a technique designed to increase data transfer speed by displaying half of the image, that is odd-
numbered horizontal lines and even-number horizontal lines alternatively.
Enhancement 99

④ Adjust the level of magnitude and SNR, and click [Apply] to confirm adjustments.
▪ Magnitude: Set the higher value if the level of shaking is high.
Enhancement 103
▪ SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio): The higher the value, the sharper the image frame becomes. Yet if it
exceeds a certain level, the noise inside the original video may be excessive.

Enhancement 111
The result image presents 16 candidates for the selected number plate based on the different margin settings
and two types of models.
Note
The predicted number plates may differ from the original, and different angles and areas of the selected
region may result in different results. Also, note that the clarity of the predicted number plate is irrelevant to
the resemblance of the original number plate.
Try number plate restoration multiple times. If the same number plate is displayed repeatedly, it may be
used as significant data.
Enhancement 112
