TROUBLE CODE: 61 - 4334 - 7 Trouble Code Test Testing: 2012 Freightliner Cascadia DETROIT DIESEL DD13 DDEC X

This document provides troubleshooting steps for trouble code 61-4334-7 related to a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia with a Detroit Diesel DD13 engine. The steps include inspecting for DEF contamination, checking for other fault codes, testing air pressure, inspecting air lines, testing air pressure at the DEF pump connection, inspecting the pump inlet line and suction line.

TROUBLE CODE: 61 - 4334 - 7

Trouble Code Test

Testing

1. Inspect for contamination in DEF.

A. DEF is contaminated. Inspect for DEF in fuel or coolant.

B. DEF is not contaminated, go to next step.

2. With Scan Tool connected, ignition turned ON (engine OFF), inspect for other fault codes
associated with PLU, DEF pump, DEF pressure sensor, DEF air pressure sensor, DEF tank
level/zone faults and Low DEF air pressure.

A. Diagnose and repair other fault codes first if active.

B. Go to next step if other fault codes are not active.

3. Run engine to build up air pressure.

A. Air pressure in secondary air system is more than 100 Psi. (689 kPa), go to next
step.

B. Air pressure in secondary air system is less than 100 Psi. (689 kPa), diagnose air
compressor issue.

4. Turn OFF ignition and wait five minutes so that purge cycle is completed. Inspect for leaks,
kinks, cracks or melting air supply lines from air tank to PLU, from PLU to DEF pump and DEF
metering unit.

A. Damaged lines or air leaks are found, repair as required.

B. Damaged lines or air leaks are not found, go to next step.

5. With air supply line disconnected from DEF pump, connect proper air pressure gauge of 0-200
Psi. (0-1379 kPa) to DEF air supply line end. Turn ignition ON (engine OFF) and run SCR air
pressure test (one minute) using Scan Tool while monitoring air pressure gauge.

A. Air pressure is within 75-85 Psi. (517-586 kPa), remove gauge and connect air
supply line. Go to Step 7.

B. Air pressure is not within 75-85 Psi. (517-586 kPa), go to next step.

6. Inspect for contamination (any debris, oil or coolant) in PLU.

A. Contamination found, repair cause, clean PLU, DEF metering unit and related air
lines as needed.

B. Contamination not found, replace PLU.

7. With DEF tank return line disconnected from DEF pump, perform SCR air pressure test (one
minute) and inspect return outlet fitting.

A. Fluid is discharging from outlet during test, replace DEF pump pneumatic pump
switch valve.

B. Fluid is not discharging from outlet, connect return line, go to next step.

8. With DEF pump inlet line disconnected, connect one end of clear rubber hose over inlet port
and other end in clean container with fresh water. While monitoring DEF pressure, run SCR air
pressure test.

A. DEF pressure attains 72 Psi. (496 kPa), go to next step.

B. DEF pressure does not attain 72 Psi. (496 kPa), replace pump.

9. Inspect for damage or restrictions in DEF pump suction line.

A. Suction line is damaged or restricted, replace suction line.

B. Suction line is not damaged or restricted, inspect for restricted DEF tank header and
repair as required.
