Online Training & Coaching
Remote instruction is efficient
Remote instruction is fantastic
but it is extremely intensive and exhausting
Online sessions

● Teacher assists in structuring, planning and setting the goals

● Online interaction is important
● Involve the audience in online sessions
● Students should be prepared before the lesson begins (based on the agenda
sent to them before each session)
● Plan interactive activities, breakouts and options to motivate students
● The duration of one coherent part of a session is like a 40 min briefing
Allow breaks
● Class management is easier when teaching online
Online Training & Coaching --2
How to keep learners motivated and involved
● Be interactive
Interaction is definitely possible online
● Use more than only voice (listening) and text (reading)
● Screen sharing enhances student focus
● Visuals can enhance the sessions
● Use a digital whiteboard
● Give students opportunities and challenges to do something
● Plan breaks more often than in a physical class environment
● Leave the session open at the end giving students opportunities to
interact after your session
Online Collaboration
One2One -- One2Many -- Many2Many
An online environment creates opportunities for intensive collaboration and
information sharing

Synchronous
Online team meetings (planned or ad hoc)
Brainstorming with chat messages or voice

Asynchronous
Collect and share information in team spaces: messages, reactions, uploaded files,
images, overviews, lists, TODOs, recordings, …

Networking Academy Curriculum Facilities

Networking Academy Curriculum Facilities for Learning

The Cisco Networking Academy Curriculum is oriented to the student’s point-of-view
and offers numerous opportunities for interactive and self-directed learning

Students have to learn how to make use of interactive possibilities and feedback

● Videos
● Schemas and visual representations
● Interactive activities*
● Quizzes*
● Syntax checkers*
● Simulation exercises and labs*
● Online tests*

(*) with individual feedback

Networking Academy Curriculum Facilities -- 2

Make students aware of the facilities within NetAcad

● Explain to students how to learn through an interactive course
● Organize briefings to show students examples of (deep) content exploration
● Motivate your students to make intensive use of interactive possibilities and
become a self-directed learner
● Also explain how to efficiently use feedback coming from the online learning
system
● Motivate students to connect in small groups (of two to three students) to get
acquainted with the concepts and skills in doing interactive exercises and
simulation labs together online (with Webex Teams)
Navigating through NetAcad Courses --1
Course Sequencing
● The Cisco Networking Academy courses are offered in a sequential
manner
● The sequence of materials in Networking Academy courses is flexible
● There are numerous opportunities to break with the sequence

Freedom and Options

● Students are given a degree of freedom for exploring and learning
the concepts and practical skills in any consistent order that fits
them best. Many students like options
● Freedom offers possibilities to differentiate
Navigating through NetAcad Courses --2
How to allow options and choices to students
● Student needs to find out what is important and what is less important
● Most important is to understand the concepts and to be able to apply the
knowledge and skills in a professional context and in new situations

What is really important in a career-oriented Networking

Academy course
● What are the requirements of the certification exam?
● What are the requirements of the professional world?

● Challenge your students with case studies and project ideas

Navigating through NetAcad Courses --3
Walk-through
● There are many possible ways for students to navigate through a Networking
Academy course, explore the content and practice the concepts and skills
● The instructor is an important facilitator and coaches students how to learn
● It is not necessary to explicitly teach all the content
Large choice of presentation formats facilitate the work of a teacher
○ Video
○ Images
○ Schemas
○ Text
○ Interactive exercises
○ ...
Navigating through NetAcad Courses --4
Tips for Students
● Break with the sequence, focus on the essential concepts and
skills
● Test your understanding of the concepts by doing quizzes and
taking online exams
● Practice your skills by doing interactive exercises and
simulation labs
● Focus on the feedback!
Navigating through NetAcad Courses --5
It may be the first time for your students
● Your students may never have had an interactive course like
the courses in Cisco Networking Academy before
● It is not obvious for students how to use the freedom of
choice
● Coach students how to learn (in groups and individually)

● Be a coach first, instructor second

Not a single Source of truth: students have to see that the course content does not have to
originate from the instructor
