While this lesson plan bundle is designed for
classroom use, many of the activities and lessons
can be used on digital platforms.

With the purchase of this bundle, you will receive

access to a Google Drive folder that has most of the
contents of the bundle formatted digitally. I am
currently working to add the digital
activities/lessons to this folder. The expected date
of completion for the digital activities is 8/15/21.

YOU MUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW TO GAIN

This will make a copy of each file. To access these files,
you will select “recent.” There, you will be able to see all of
the copied files. You will now be able to edit these and
assign them to your students.
UNIT 1: INTRODUCTION TO BIOLOGY
NGSS Standards Disciplinary Core Idea
• HS-LS1-2: Develop and use a model to illustrate the hierarchical
Covered: organization of interacting systems that provide specific functions
within multicellular organisms.
• HS-LS1-6: Construct and revise an explanation based on evidence for
how carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen from sugar molecules may combine
with other elements to form amino acids and/or other large carbon-
based molecules.

Science & Engineering Practices

• Asking Questions and Defining Problems
• Developing and Using Models
• Planning and Carrying Out Investigations
• Analyzing and Interpreting Data
• Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions
• Engaging in Argument from Evidence
• Obtaining, Evaluating, and Communicating Information

Cross-Cutting Concepts:
• Patterns
• Cause and Effect
• Scale, Proportion and Quantity
• Systems and Models
• Energy and matter: Flows, cycles, and conservation
• Structure and Function
• Stability and Change

Concept 1: Lab/Classroom Rules and Procedures

Student will be able to…
Learning • Explain the rules and procedures of the classroom.
• Conduct themselves in an orderly manner in the lab, focused on the
Objectives: task at hand.

Concept 2: Lab Equipment

Student will be able to…
• Explain the name and function of each piece of lab equipment that
will be used in the Biology lab.
• Identify the parts (and function of those parts) of the microscope.
• Properly use a microscope to view a specimen.
• Follow the correct procedures for using the microscope.

• Argue for or against life, given information about an organism.

Concept 6: Properties of Water

Student will be able to…
• Explain the importance of water to life.
• Characterize the properties of water.

Concept 7: Macromolecules
Student will be able to…
• Identify the four major classes of macromolecules
• Distinguish between monomers and polymers.
• Compare and contrast the structure(s), functions, and locations of each
macromolecule.
• Describe the biological importance of lipids, carbohydrates, proteins and
nucleic acids as they pertain to life processes.

Concept 8: Enzymes
Student will be able to…
• Understand that chemical reactions proceed at different rates and that
catalysts are needed to speed up chemical reactions
• Compare and contrast the function of an enzyme through investigation.
• Design an experiment to test the effects of temperature on enzyme
activity.
• Explain the effects of environmental conditions on enzyme
rates/effectiveness.
• Analyze graphs pertaining to enzyme activity (pH, temperature, substrate
concentration)
