Lesson 12 - Cylindrical and Spherical Coordinate

This document discusses cylindrical and spherical coordinate systems for representing points in 3D space. It defines the cylindrical coordinate system (r, θ, z) and spherical coordinate system (ρ, θ, φ). It also covers converting between Cartesian and cylindrical/spherical coordinates and evaluating triple integrals in these alternate coordinate systems.

Triple Integrals in Cylindrical and Spherical Coordinates

Ref. Textbook: Calculus (10th ed.) by Anton, Bivens and Davis

The Cylindrical Coordinate System (𝒓, 𝜽, 𝒛): In the cylindrical coordinate system, a point in space
is represented by the ordered triple (𝑟, 𝜃, 𝑧), where
• (𝑟, 𝜃) are the polar coordinates of the point’s projection in the 𝑥𝑦-plane
• 𝑧 is the usual 𝑧-coordinate in the Cartesian coordinate system
