The anatomy of frogs and humans is quite similar. Understanding the frog's
anatomy and how its many parts resemble those of people will be made easier with the
aid of this laboratory experiment. Students will recognize the frog's external and
internal parts in this activity, determine their purposes, and note the similarities
between frog and human anatomy.
We have been given the opportunity to dissect a frog in our school's laboratory.
Our teacher Sir. Leovigildo O. Icutan Jr. and other facilitators demonstrated the process
and procedure for dissecting a frog. They taught us how to properly dissect a frog.
Live frog
Alcohol
Surgical mask
Tissue
Pushpins
Gloves
Styrofoam
Lab gown (optional)
The procedures we performed to appropriately dissect our specimen are given below:
1. The first step was to gather all the necessary equipment and set it in front of us so
that we could easily access it.
2. The frog become paralyzed in the next stage. In paralyzing a frog, we need a
pitching tool inserted in the middle of the neck. A needle is inserted in the center of the
neck to restrain animals using the pithing technique.
3. Pin the frog’s four limbs in place with its ventral side up (rear).
4. To find the sternum and pectoral bones, run your fingers over the animal’s chest at
the level of the forelimbs. Use the forceps (tweezers) to pinch the skin in the center of
the abdomen and lift it upward. With the scissors, cut through the fold to create a small
skin opening.

5. Use the scissors to make a series of cuts in the skin in order to make two flaps of
tissue.
6. Using the scissors, carefully make a series of cuts through the muscle wall as you did
with the skin. Lift upwards as you cut to avoid damaging the organs underneath.
7. Pin back the muscle flaps as you did with the skin flaps. The abdominal cavity and
organs should now be visible.

Dissecting a frog is a first time for us, it was really exciting because after we cut
open the belly of the frog, we can clearly see the organs inside the body, the fat
bodies, liver, heart, lungs (which is inflated), gall bladder, stomach, large and small
intestines. We removed it one by one. We first removed the large and small intestine
with the stomach for measurements. Inside the stomach we saw a lot of insects that
the frog ate within the day. After opening the stomach our teacher asked us to remove
the other organs to expose the heart. The heart of the frog was still moving even after
we take out all of its organ. It was an outstanding activity because we experienced to
dissect a live frog inside our school. A frog which is feared by most of us. A frog which
almost have the same aspect or structure compared to the human body. Understanding
the similarities and differences between human and frog anatomy through hands-on
experience is important for comprehending how organs work.
