INTRODUCTION

In today's dynamic landscape of the process industry, the imperative to design,

simulate, and optimize complex systems is fundamental to achieving operational
efficiency and reliability. At the forefront of advanced process modeling and
simulation software is the SoftMaster Application, developed by Honeywell Process
Solutions. This detailed report meticulously examines the process of connecting the
operator PC to the PLC stand via Ethernet and aligning the IP addresses. Each step
of this process is dissected to highlight the sophisticated methodologies used in
leveraging the powerful capabilities of SoftMaster. The insights gleaned from this
exploration serve as a valuable reservoir of knowledge for engineers and industry
professionals aiming to enhance the performance and sustainability of their process
facilities. As we navigate through the intricacies of configuring a gas plant, the
overarching objective is to provide a nuanced understanding of SoftMaster's
functionalities and their strategic importance in achieving operational
excellence. This endeavor transcends mere technical exposition; it represents a
scholarly initiative aimed at providing a formal platform for the dissemination of
knowledge. Thus, the ensuing discourse aims to offer a comprehensive overview,
delving into the complexities and nuances involved in the precise connection of a
PLC stand through the sophisticated framework of SoftMaster.

1 Purpose of the Work

The objective of this lab is to install Master Logic (ML) Server software on the
Experion Server.

2 Practical part

2.1 MasterLogic Server Configuration

Before integrating ML Server with Experion PKS, the initial step involves
configuring the MasterLogic Server. The configuration of the MasterLogic Server is
illustrated in Figure 1 below.

Figure 1 – MasterLogic Server Configuration

As depicted in Figure 1 above, the configuration of the MasterLogic Server

application environment is displayed. In the General tab, our MLServer is named
MLPLC3, and we selected the PLC type ML200-IEC, which corresponds to the PLC
type used in the lab. The IP Address1 section is set to 192.168.80.2, reflecting the IP
parameters of our PLC. Additionally, we utilized "System" as the Asset Name and
chose PLC events including Error, System, Mode, and Shutdown.

2.2 ML in QuickBuilder Configuration

In this stage of the practice work, the objective is to configure the Master Logic
Channel, Controller, and Points. This is done using the QuickBuilder application
environment. Initially, the Master Logic component is selected from the component
manager for further utilization. Figure 2 below illustrates the component manager.

Figure 2 – Component manager window

Following the parameter settings in the Component Manager, a MasterLogic

Channel was created with all the requisite parameters, as depicted in Figure 3 below.

Figure 3 – MasterLogic Channel Configuration tab

As depicted in Figure 3 above, the MasterLogic Channel was configured, and

in the ML Channel ID section, the "CHANNEL03" MasterLogic Server channel,
created previously, was selected. The configuration of the MasterLogic Channel was

successfully downloaded. Subsequently, the Master Logic Controller was
configured, as shown in Figure 4 below.

Figure 4 – Master Logic Controller Configuration tab

As depicted in Figure 4 above, the MasterLogic Controller was configured

within the Quick Builder application. In the Channel Name section, the "MLCHA"
channel, which was previously configured and downloaded, was selected. The
Controller was successfully downloaded. The next task is to configure an analog
point, as shown in the configuration presented in Figure 5 below.

Figure 5 – Analog point’s Main tab

6
Figure 5 above displays the Main Tab of the configured Analog point, with its
PV Source Address set as "MLCON ML03.%WW10$CON#WORD". Moving
forward, in Figure 6 below, the Control Tab of the Analog point is presented.

Additionally, the Setpoint and Output addresses of the point are specified, with
addresses 11 and 12 chosen. Furthermore, in Figure 7 below, the Alarms tab of the
Analog point is presented.

7
As depicted in Figure 7, alarms for the Analog Point have been successfully
configured. The next task is to configure a status point for the ML 200. In Figure 8
below, the Main tab of the Status point configuration is presented.

Figure 8 – Status point’s Main tab

As displayed in Figure 8 above, a status point has been configured with its PV
source address set as "MLCON ML03.%MX10$CON#BIT". Moving forward, in
Figure 9 below, the Control Tab of the Status Point configuration is presented.

Figure 9 – Status point’s Control Tab

8
As illustrated in Figure 9 above, the Control tab of the Status Point shows the
source and destination addresses of the Output (OP), set as "MLCON
ML03.%MX12$CON#BIT". Moving on, in Figure 10 below, the Alarms tab of the
Status Point configuration is presented.

Figure 10 – Status point’s Alarms tab

As depicted in Figure 10 above, a High alarm was configured for the Status
Point at the ON alarm state. The Status Point was successfully configured and
downloaded to the database, marking the completion of the practice work.

9
CONCLUSION

During this practice work, the objective was to integrate the ML200 PLC with
the Experion PKS environment. This task was successfully accomplished by
leveraging the MasterLogic Server application and the Quick Builder environment.
Throughout the process, valuable knowledge was gained on utilizing the
MasterLogic Server application environment and establishing integration between
the ML200 and Experion PKS system.
