6. (i) Explain the Objectives and Principles of Plant Layout. 7

(ii) What are the needs for Production Planning and Control? Distinguish between production planning and 8
production control and state their objectives.

7. (i) What is a Travel Chart in relation to Plant Layout ? 9

8. (i) Write the Process Chart Symbols used in Work Study in a tabular form under the Headings : EVENT , 7
SYMBOL, DESCRIPTION

(ii) The below table gives the data about the sales of a company in millions of rupees. Using the line of good 8
fit or least squares, fit a straight line trend to the data. Forecast the sales for the years 2023 and 2024. Show
the data and the trend line graphically.

9.(a) (i) What are the factors to be considered while selecting a Material Handling Equipment? Explain in brief . 7

(ii) Find the sequence that minimizes the total time (in hours) required to complete the following jobs on 8

10. A company has the target to produce 480 units within 8 hours shift. Assume the assembly line has 10 steps 15
[ A to J] to complete the assembly. Find the number of stations to complete the assembly and also assigned
tasks to each station .
The Precedence task and time for each task are given in tabular form :

11. (i) Define inventory. What are the various types of inventory ? Why they are maintained ? 6
(ii) A dealer supplies the following information with regards to an item of inventory : 9
Annual demand = 12000 units, Ordering cost = Rs. 15 per order, Price = Rs. 25 per unit
Inventory carrying costs = 20% per unit per year
Inventory stock out costs = 30% per unit per year
Determine :
(a) Economic order quantity (I) when stock-outs are not permitted (II) when stock outs are permitted.
(b) What quantity of the product should be back ordered, if any ?
(c) What will be the maximum inventory at any particular time of the year ?
(d) Would you recommend to allow back ordering ? If so what would be the cost saving through back
ordering ?
