1. GENERAL NOTES

1.1 SCOPE

This document shall be the Design Basis for the Structural Design of the Proposed
Apartment Building . Located at Calle Decena,Brgy. San Roque,Pasay City

1.2 LANGUAGE

All drawings, calculation sheets and documents shall be written in the English except
where government authorities demand the local language for their approval. Such
demand shall be observed.

1.3 UNITS OF MEASUREMENT

Units of measurement in design shall be SI system.

1.4 CODES AND REFERENCES

1.4.1 National Structural Code of the Philippines, Volume 1, 6th Edition 2010

1.4.2 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings & Other Structures ( ASCE 7 - 98 )

1.4.3 Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete ( ACI 318 - 95 )

1.4.4 Foundation Analysis & Design, 5th Edition 1996,by Joseph E. Bowles

1.4.5 ASEP Steel Handbook , 2004

1.4.6 Concrete Design , BS 8110

1.5 MATERIAL STRENGTH

1. Concrete

The concrete design shall be in accordance with ACI Standard 318 and UBC. The
Specified minimum compressive strength of concrete by cylinder test at 28 days age
shall be as follows:

For reinforced concrete : f ’c = 20.7 MPa

2. Reinforcing Bar ( minimum yield strength )

For bars Ø16 mm and smaller : fy = 275.8 MPa

For bars Ø20 mm and bigger : fy = 415 MPa

3. Structural Steel and accessories

1-1
ASTM A36
Minimum Yield strength 248 MPa

4. Welds

Base metal ASTM A36

Welding electrode AWS A5.1 E70XX

1.6 LOADS AND EXTERNAL FORCES

1. Dead Load (D)

The actual weights of materials comprising the structural members including the
overburden soil shall be used as Dead Load.

The minimum unit weights of major construction materials shall be considered as

follows:

Reinforced concrete …………… 24.0 kN/m3

Structural steel …………… 77.0 kN/m3
Water …………… 9.81 kN/m3
Soil weight …………… 19.0 kN/m3

2. Floor Live Loads (L)

Floor live loads shall be calculated in accordance with NSCP

3. Roof Live Loads (L)

Roof live loads shall be calculated in accordance with NSCP

4. Earthquake Loads(E)

Earthquake loads shall be calculated in accordance with NSCP

1-2
1.7 COMBINATION OF LOADS

Load factors and combinations shall conform to NSCP Code. The structure shall be
designed for the load combination which produces highest stresses.

The general combinations shall be considered as a minimum as follows:

1. For footing base pressure verification, general foundation stability analysis and steel
design, all loads shall be considered as a minimum to act in the following
combinations:

UNFACTORED LOAD COMBINATION / ALLOWABLE STRESS DESIGN

IN ACCORDANCE TO NSCP 2010,6TH EDITION

DL
DL + LL
DL + EQX/1.4
DL + EQZ/1.4
DL + 0.75(LL + EQX/1.4)
DL + 0.75(LL + EQZ/1.4)

2. For the design of Concrete Structure, the following load combination shall be
considered as a minimum and which produces the greatest stresses shall be used:

FACTORED LOAD COMBINATION / ULTIMATE STRENGTH DESIGN

IN ACCORDANCE TO NSCP 2010,6TH EDITION

1.4DL + 1.7LL
1.32DL + 1.1LL + 1.1 EQX
1.32DL + 1.1LL + 1.1 EQZ
DL + 1.1 EQX
DL + 1.1 EQZ

1.8 STABILITY ANALYSIS

1. Minimum factor of safety against sliding (FSSL) shall be 1.50. The sliding friction
factor ( ) between concrete and soil shall be 0.40. Passive earth pressure from
backfill shall not be considered in computing the safety factor.

2. Minimum factor of safety against overturning (FSOT) shall be 1.50

3. Minimum factor of safety against uplift due to buoyancy (FSUP) = 1.1
