Name Harvey Lucas-Chave

Pathway Level 3 Diploma Unit 8 – Performing arts.
Project A Midsummers Night Dream
title
Section 1: Rationale (Yr 1 approx. 100 words) Yr 2- 150 words

 What have I learnt from the projects I've done so far?

My other project opened my mind to more surrealistic acting, using my body as well as my
voice gives a more naturistic feel to the characters lines, rehearsing duologues has allowed
me to work in a group better and be more creative with my ideas.
 What does all the work I have completed/ learnt so far on the course mean to me?
I feel like it’s a warmup for the job I want when I’m older, giving me an insight into what being
an actor is like.
 How has this helped me to think about my skills as a creative/performer?
I’ve been using a lot more physical and practical skills to develop my performance.
 What are my strengths and weaknesses from my last project?
During my surrealism performance I portrayed my character well with good amounts of
emotion and used lots of physical skills to evolve my performance. I could have been more
fluid with my movements to create a better effect and atmosphere.

Section 2: Project concept (Yr 1 approx. 200 Yr 2- 200 words

words)

 What are my interests and ideas that I want to explore in my final project?
I want to perform a more serious role while still keeping the comedy aspect of the
performance. I also want to be more melodramatic, over exaggerating movements during
some of my scenes to keep the audience’s attention and to give myself a more memorable
role.
 What will I research?
My research is mainly going into the emotions of the characters during difficult times in the
performance. Knowing how Hermia feels about her arranged marriage, finding out from real
people about how it feels to be in Helenas shoes. Learning these allow me to be more
passionate and comforting towards these two characters, I will also be researching into
podcast of people talking about Lysanders situation and how they would feel about the love of
their life having an arranged marriage. My performance role is to help where I’m needed, so I
can’t research much as there are lots of people in each role.
 Why do I want to explore this?
I feel like this type of research could allow me to portray emotions more and allow my
character to have more empathy towards everyone, creating the right atmosphere for my
scenes is insanely important as it will set the tone of the scene and allow the audience to
know what kind of person Lysander is.
 How will you use this research to help you shape your practical work?
Creating the perfect atmosphere will make my practical work much better, allowing me to use
my vocal skills to portray more emotion and connecting with the audience will create an
emotional stimulus when my personality changes. Using this research I will know what
everyone’s feeling on stage allowing me to understand the atmosphere so that my emotions
are perfect for the scene.
Section 3: Evaluating the Process (Yr 1 Yr 2- 150 words
approx. 50 words)

 How will I check that I have achieved my personal aims within the project?
Ask for feedback from Family in the audience, ask if I achieved the goals I was trying to
accomplish. While performing lines for them to get feedback at an earlier date to let me work
on my performing before the show night.
 How will I measure my own progress?
Using audience members (family & Friends) to perform in front of and get feedback from what
I did well to what I could work on.
 How will record high and low points of the process?
I will perform once a week and write down everything I did well and everything I could work
on; I will spend a week working on the feedback and repeat the process with writing down the
pros and cons from that week. I will also be recording the performances to allow me to narrow
down where I was worse giving me a section to work on.
 How can I best evidence and show my skills in decision making?
Keep a journal and write down every decision I decide to make about my performing and
rehearsals. I will also use voice notes to record me during my decision making and my
rehearing so I can hear where I’m going wrong, that gives me time to work on it.
 How can I best evidence and show my skills in collaboration?
I will write down the person’s name who’s giving me feedback, and I will record some of the
performances with the feedback a the end to let me look back and see what I was doing
wrong allowing me to narrow down the lines I was worse at, and rehearse them more to
perfect the delivery.

Proposed research sources and bibliography (Harvard format)

 What sources of material will I look into?
Quora. (n.d.). Do people in arranged marriages feel any sense of choice in their lives? [online]
Available at: https://www.quora.com/Do-people-in-arranged-marriages-feel-any-sense-of-
choice-in-their-lives [Accessed 4 Mar. 2024].
 Why do I think these will be helpful?
This site is for posting real stories of arranged marriages, I feel like having a real person’s story
will help me a lot more than a publishers as it feels a lot more reliable and the emotions feel real
instead of just mentioned.
