Responsibilities of Project Guide


1. The guides shall ensure that the project work is relevant to the recent trends in the area of Computer
Science & Engineering with innovative ideas and required complexity.
2. The project guides are responsible for guiding and extracting the quality work from the project
group.
3. The project guide shall review the project work, document and record all the interactions with the
project group. Review includes the following:
i) The work assigned for the coming week.
ii) Status of work completed.
iii) Suggestions/comments given

4. In case the project group is absent for review meetings, the guide shall interact with the
students/parents and bring this to the notice of the Project Coordinator/HoD through official
means.
5. The project guides shall conduct the project reviews within the stipulated period and the review
marks to be sent to the Project Coordinator of the department at said times. PRC members shall
timely update the Project Proctor.

Attendance Requirement

1. Students are required to satisfy minimum attendance criteria as prescribed by VTU i.e. (85%). If
the student fails to meet the minimum attendance requirements, he/she shall not be permitted to
take up the project work viva voce (both internal and external).

2. Students who intend to do project work in the industry can go to the industry for 4 days only
from Monday to Thursday and remaining 2 days students shall attend classes.

3. Students carrying out project work in the college are required to work on project from Monday
to Thursday and remaining 2 days of the week, they shall attend classes.

Continuous Evaluation Process

1. The students are required to meet their Internal Guides to report their progress on project work.
2. Progress Report (PR) has to be maintained in the form of a diary by the project group and the
same has to be discussed with the Internal Guide regularly.

3. In case of industry project, during the course of project work, the Internal Guides will be in regular
contact with External Guides and will visit the industry at least twice during the project period.
4. For IA assessment the project groups must give a presentation, report and demonstration as per
the schedules.
5. The presentation session for each group will be for 30 minutes and every member of the team
needs to defend the work done.
6. The project team is required to submit hard copy of the final project report phase I in the
prescribed format to the guide. Hard copy and soft copy of final project report phase II to guide
and departmental library, one CD to the guide written with code.

Presentation and Demonstration
One of the most important skills which the project aims is to assess the student’s ability to
communicate their ideas and work effectively. As part of the assessment, they are required to
rendera Presentation and Demonstration of their Project work to the project committee.
⮚ The time allotted for presentation and demonstration is 1 hour.

⮚ Each presentation will be for minimum of 30 minutes.

⮚ Some guidelines to be followed during presentation:


 Ensure the presentation is within given time-limit.
 Use slides with light background and ensure that the content has sufficient contrast
so that text is visible clearly.
 Slides must be concise and all points should be clear.
 Use graphic tools at appropriate places. Slides with images, graphs, tables, etc.,
should be explained so that the purpose and results are clear.
 Use a pointer or other device to draw the audience’s attention to what you are talking.
 Use good logical transitions between slides.
 All members of the project team must participate actively.
 Speak loud, clear and at a consistent pace.
 Maintain eye-contact and follow visual cues.
