What is councelling ?
the provision of professional assistance and guidance
in resolving personal or psychological problems. Why councelling ? The main goal of counseling at the school level is to meet the children' emotional, social, and behavioral needs. Additionally, to establish a welcoming and seamless environment in to assist each of them in a variety of ways.
Experiencing a mental health problem in childhood is one of the biggest
barriers to achieving well-being Example I am not fine (hypothetically). Bad mental health. so, I don’t perform well is studies.. I decide to bottle up nd not tell anyone , even my close friends. I don’t have a place/person who I can go talk to. Leading to the worst. Cant emotionally anot financially afford a therapist, cuz.. who would wanna tell their parents ? if we do say bym “phone . THAT GOD DAMN PHONE.” Basically, it’s a vicious cycle.
Many schools nowadays do not see the importance of counselling
services. In cases where schools have counselling services, it is not given priority and I do believe this is a wrong move, if we are serious about improving the country’s education system.
The only “councellor” ik is used to come as a substitute tr.
apparently, there are councellors in our school and they do exist.
School-based counselling interventions is very effective for those
who have been abused or problematic. I am so sorry if you could relate to any of this.. And please do look out for help. Take care of your self Counselling as a preventative measure: School staff, parents/carers and/or other adults close to the child or young person identify that there are signs of behavioural change (e.g. children and young people engaging in risk taking behaviour like drug and alcohol misuse) and refer them, with the children and young people’s consent, to counselling in order to help them explore and make more positive, goal orientated choices
Counselling as an early intervention measure: Children and
young people themselves, or the adults around them identify a problem and refer the children and young people to counselling. Within school counselling young people are seen usually in two to three weeks, it would be unusual to wait longer than four weeks to be assessed by a school counsellor
A counsellor should also develop confidential relationships with
students to help them resolve and cope with problems and challenges. School counsellors also serve a vital role in maximising students’ success Counsellors have a friendly and professional approach they give to the whole process of helping the learners, because they give it time and keep following up the students to assess the progress. They make appointments with various problematic students referred to them by the teachers.
In a school setting nowadays, there are many cases which need to
be handled by a trained counsellor. These include; psychological, family issues and above all indiscipline cases; which, if not handled professionally, can lead students to making wrong and uninformed decisions. Some students watch pornography which poisons their mind to an extent that even when the teacher is in class, they just pretend to be studying, when their mind is somewhere else. And some students have abusive experiences that affect their life. If we conduct a counselling for all children the students who experience abuses might open up their problem or other kind of their problem but if we are not create a such kind of situation the children will not open their problem . So every school must have a fully-fledged counselling section. Schools need to invest in counselling as one way of improving the students’ welfare and performance.
