Learning Objectives:
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
• Identify what is Addition
• Specify mathematical symbol used in operation of addition; and
• Demonstrate how things are put together.
II. Subject Matter:
Topic: Addition as "Putting Together"
References: M1NS-lla-23
Approach: 4A’s Approach (Activity, Analysis, Abstraction, and Application)
Strategies: Group/Individual Performance Activity
Materials: Visual Aids, Flashcards, and Pictures
Subject Integration: Mathematics

Values to be Integrate: Appreciate the importance of adding numbers/objects in our

everyday life.
III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Before we begin our new lesson we
have first, "Classroom Rules"

1. Listen Carefully
2. Do not do unnecessary things.
3. Raise your hand if you want to (Student are listening)
answer.
Is it clear to you, class?

Yes, teacher.

Review:

Before we start our new lesson, count the

objects in the given examples and answer
the following questions.

1. What animals do you see in this

picture? Dog, Birds, Cats

2. How many animals do you see?

3 animals

3. How many dog are there? How

about the birds and cats? 1 dog, 2 birds, and 3 cats.

Motivation:

Let us sing a song Nursery Rhymes, "

Ten Little Fingers, Ten Little Toes."

" Ten little fingers, ten little toes

Two little ears and one little nose

(Students participate)
Two little eyes to help me see

And one little mouth to smile at me!"

Activity:
Instruction: Students draw based on the
given below.

1. 3 flowers

2. 5 cats

3. 1 ball

4. 4 pencils

5. 2 bags

Now we are done on our activity, did you

kids enjoy it? You want more?
Yes, teacher.

Analysis:

Now, I will be grouped you into (3),

each group will be choosing one
representative to give the final answer in
the given problems below. This game
called

" Combining Numbers".

Group 1

25
and

Group 2

10
and

Group 3
23
and

How's the activitiy kids, did you enjoy it?

Yes, teacher.
What did you observe in this activity? Yes,
Bernadette?
The numbers are combine each other.
Very good! Bernadette.

Let us give a " High five clap" for

bernadette kids. (Students give a "high five clap").

What do you think our topic for today?

Yes, Angeline? (Students raise their hands)

I think the topic for today is about

"Numbers as putting together".
Very good! Angeline.

Again kids, give a "high five clap" for

angeline. (Students give a "high five clap").

Our topic for today is all about "Number:

As putting together or joining sets". Are
you ready for our proper discussion class?

Abstraction

Addition - is finding the total number

of objects after putting two or more
numbers or objects together.
Yes, teacher.

How many dogs can you see?

How many cats can you see?

Now, we have a 5 dogs and 3 cats. If we

put all the dogs and all the cats together
inside one box, how many animals will be 5 dogs
there be?
3 cats

Let us count!

¹ ² ³ 4 5
¹ ² ³ 4 5

⁶ ⁷ ⁸ ⁶ ⁷ ⁸
Addition

Addend Addend Sum

Again, how many picture of animals are

there if you sum it? All animals are 8, teacher.

Very good! kids, we have 8 picture of the

animals inside the box.

How can you say that the total picture of

animals is 8? Yes, jason?

Very good! Jason. by adding, teacher.

So now, we put a plus sign (+) in the

middle of the object. Because plus sign
(+) is the mathematical symbol that used
in the operation of addition. Do you
understand kids?
Yes, teacher.

So, what did you notice about what I put

at the bottom of the first and second box?
You put the word "Addend", teacher.

Very good!
Teacher dhey write "addend" at the
bottom of the 2 boxes. Because the

called addends.

How about the third box? You put the word "sum", teacher.

Very good kids, teacher write the word

"sum" at the bottom of third box.

Why is teacher put the word "sum", do

you have an idea kids? Yes, Ana? Because, teacher you combined (2)

(Students give a " high five clap").
Kids, give a "high five clap" for Ana.

Sum - means the total numbers of, by

joining numbers or objects.

Do you undestand, kids? Yes, teacher.

Again, what do you called when

finding the total number of objects after
putting two or more numbers or objects
together? Addition, teacher.

How about when I put together the (5) Addend, teacher.

dogs and (3) cats?

Sum, teacher.
Very good! Now, if I combined it into
one set. What do you call this?

Very good! Now, give yourself an (Students Energetic "high five clap").
energetic "high five clap".

Application

Instruction: Count the total objects and

draw inside the box. Each student who
raise their hand, will be answer problems
given below.

5. ☀️➕ ☀️ = 4. 🌜🌜🌜 ➕ 🌜= 🌜🌜🌜 🌜

Generalization 5. ☀️➕ ☀️ = ☀️☀️

What symbol did you use when you

add some objects or numbers?

What did you observe in this lesson?

Plus sign (+), teacher.

Where is the plus sign (+) often

(Asnwers may vary).
used?

In addition, teacher.
