Academic Year (AY) 2023-2024, Semester I

INSTRUCTIONS: This is a group assignment – a group may consist of NO MORE THAN


TWO members. Your group is required to use a spreadsheet software to
perform all required tasks.

Required Tasks
1. Create the worksheet below. [1 mark]

2. Insert an appropriate function in cell A3 such that it displays the current date and time when the
spreadsheet file is opened for use. [1 mark]

3. For the labels in row 1 (Portentous Orchard Jamaica Ltd.) and row 2 (Monthly Sales Report –
October), use:
 any other appropriate font-style, except Arial or Calibri
 font-size 21.5
 the merge and center feature to span the labels across columns A to F, in their respective rows
 distinct colours for shading the cells [4 marks]

4. Input records for each employee in the worksheet, as follow:


 insert a last name followed by a comma then a first name, so as to have six (6) names for
employees in range B5:B10
 design and use an appropriate lookup function to insert the salary for each employee based on
the fact that employees whose Emp. No. is below 106 receive a salary of $145,000.00, while
other employees receive a salary of $124,000.00
 configure and use an appropriate data validation rule in range D5:D10 that will allow the user
to only enter values between $90,500.55 and $103,725.75 [10 marks]

5. Insert the label “Commission Rate (%)” in cell D3. Insert a value between 1.7 and 2.9 in cell E3
as the commission rate. [2 marks]

6. The commission that an employee receives must be calculated using the following formula:
COMMISSION = SALES AMOUNT * COMMISSION RATE

Create and use an appropriate formula, based on the above, so as to compute the commission that
each employee will receive. [2 marks]

7. The total salary that an employee receives must be calculated using the following formula:
TOTAL SALARY = SALARY + COMMISSION

Create and use an appropriate formula, based on the above, so as to compute the total salary that
each employee will receive. [2 marks]

8. In your worksheet, insert the appropriate functions to find and display the Totals, Average,
Highest, Lowest, and Count for values in the SALARY, SALES AMOUNT, and COMMISSION
and TOTAL SALARY columns. [5 marks]

9. Insert a new record for an employee with 109 as their Emp. No. [2 marks]

10. Use the appropriate spreadsheet feature to find and display the commission rate value that ought
to be used, if the average Total Salary was to be $350,000.00. Hint: Use the Goal Seek feature.
[3 marks]

11. Sort the data in the spreadsheet, in ascending order, by SALARY and then by EMP. NO.
[3 marks]

12. Format all values that represent monies to show the $ sign as well as comma, also display these
values correct to two decimal places. For example, the value 350000 must be shown as
$350,000.00. [2 mark]

13. Use the spreadsheet application’s appropriate feature to create an advanced filter criterion in cell
A25, so as to find all employees whose salary is greater than the value of average salary. Extract
and place the records in your workbook starting at cell A30. [5 marks]

14. Create an appropriately labeled pie chart to display the sales amount that each employee
contributed. Place your chart on a new worksheet. [3 marks]

Submission Requirements
Save and submit your group’s solution, naming the file using the last names of each person.

If late submission is permitted, such submission will lose 14 marks before being assessed.
