(a).……………………… there lived a widow in a village. She had a daughter named


Bawang Merah, and a stepdaughter named Bawang Putih. The widow treated them (b)
……………………… She spoiled Bawang Merah, but she made Bawang Putih do a lot of
work, such as cleaning the house, washing clothes, and cooking.
One day, when Bawang Putih was washing some clothes in the river, her stepmother's
had (c). ……………………… washed away. When she got home, Bawang Putih (d)
……………………… by her stepmother. She asked Bawang Putih to look for it. She also
forbade her to go home before finding the shawl.
Then, Bawang Putih went down the river (e) ………………………. When she met
someone, she asked if he or she saw the shawl. Unfortunately, nobody saw it. When Bawang
Putih arrived at a cave near the river, she saw (f) ……………………… She asked her if she saw
the shawl, and the old grandmother said yes. However, the old grandmother would give the

All day, she helped the grandmother clean the cave without complaining. The grandmother was
satisfied with her work. Then, the grandmother gave the shawl back to Bawang Putih. She also

helped her. One pumpkin was big, but the other was small. Bawang Putih chose the small one.
When Bawang Putih arrived at home, her stepmother and her sister scolded her. Then,
Bawang Putih told them what had happened. Her stepmother was angry because Bawang Putih
chose the small pumpkin. She then grabbed the pumpkin and slammed it on the ground. What a
surprise! The pumpkin was (i) ……………………… idea. Her stepmother and Bawang
Merah finally got an idea.
On the next day, the stepmother and Bawang Merah went to the river. Bawang Merah
deliberately washed away her mother's shawl. Then, they went along the river and met the old
grandmother. She also found the shawl. They followed the grandmother to her house. At the
grandmother's house, the grandmother asked Bawang Merah to help her. However, Bawang
Merah refused to help her and arrogantly asked her to give the big pumpkin. The grandmother
then gave the pumpkin. Then, they went home happily. At home, they opened the big pumpkin.
Instead of getting jewelry, various kinds of (j) ……………………… so scared that they ran.
came out of the pumpkin. They were Both stepmother and Bawang Merah finally realized their
greed. They regretted that they treated Bawang Putih bad and apologized to Bawang Putih. The
kind Bawang Putih finally forgave them.
