Lesson Plan

The document details a lesson plan for teaching students about network cabling. The lesson plan aims to familiarize students with the color configuration of wires in LAN cables, teach them how to make a working LAN cable, and have them perform cable crimping. The lesson will use materials like UTP cable, RJ45 connectors, and a crimping tool. It outlines the procedures and activities for the lesson.

E. Value Integration: Value the importance of good communication between two individuals
resulting to a good relationship through the appreciation of network cable.

F. Concepts: Networking cables are networking hardware used to connect one

network device to other network devices or to connect two or more computers
to share printers, scanners and other hardware peripherals and is used in
computer networking were cables are linked in order to share resources,
exchange files, or allow electronic communications.

G. Time Allocation 60 minutes

Assignment Class I believe I gave you an assignment right? Yes ma’am.

What was our assignment? Yes Ms. Rhea.

Ma’am it is about the three types of
network cable in unshielded twisted
pair. And we are to bring the materials
needed in Network cabling

Very good! And what are these materials? Ma’am the UTP cable, the RJ45,

crimping tool and LAN Tester. Yes
Thank you.
Did you bring the materials required? Excellent! ma’am.

We are going to use those materials later in our

activity for today’s lesson.

5. Recall Let us review our past lesson through an

Interactive quiz. Let us start:

C. Cable
D. Crimping tool
Very good!
2. It is used to test if your LAN cable is
working.
A. Wire striper The answer is LAN tester.
B. LAN tester
C. RJ45
D. Crimping tool
That is correct.
3. It serves as an indicator in the LAN tester
that the wires are properly inserted and are
working.
The answer is Lights.
A. Beep
B. Lights
C. Numbers
D. Letters

E. Unlocking of Let me first introduce to you some words that will
difficulties help you to understand the topic.

So, the first word is Network. Please read the Network is a system of computers
meaning of “Network”, Darlyn and other devices that are connected
to each other.
Thank You Darlyn!

The second word is Cable. Please read the Cable is a medium through which
meaning of Cable, Ella. information usually moves from one
network device to another.

The third one is the UTP cable. Please read David. UTP is stands for Unshielded
Twisted Pair cable. It is the most
common and generally the best
option for school/office networks.

INTERACTION Today were going to deal with one of the three

types of cable which is the Unshielded twisted Pair
F. Lesson Proper or known as UTP cable.

Mila Rose kindly read. UTP cable is made up of a bundle of

twisted pairs. The twisted pairs are
small 22- or 24- american wire gauge
(awg) sized wires twisted around each
other.

The wires are typically made of copper with

polyethylene (PE) or FEP insulation which is color
coded depending on the application of the cable
being made.

Kindly take a look at you’re UTP cables. (The students will take a look at their
UTP cables).

What color of the UTP cable do you have? Thank Ma’am we have the color is grey.

you!

Ma’am the first type is straight-

We have three types of LAN cables. Kindly through A, next is straight-through B
read the three types. and the last one is the cross- over
cables.

Now, let’s start identifying first the color

configuration for straight-through A or your T-
568A.

The colors combinations are WG- G-WO-Bl- WBl-

O-BrW-Br.

Who wants to repeat the reading of color

configuration? Yes, David. Ma’am the color configuration for
straight through A is White Green,
Green, White Orange, Blue, White
Blue, Orange, White Brown, Brown.
Great! You can easily catch up with me.

Who wants to read the colors for straight

through B? Yes, Mikee. Ma’am the color configurations are
TIA/EIA 568B: OW-O GW-Bl-BlW-
G BrW-Br
Indeed! That is correct.

We also have the third one the cross over LAN

Cable. What do you think is the combination of the Ma’am, cross over is the combination
cable wires? of the straight through, your straight
thru A and
Very good! straight thru B.

A Cross-over connection on the other hand is a
combination of both connection TIAs that is used
to connect similar devices.

Is there any clarifications?

Now we are going to perform how to do the cable.

Steps in Creating a Working Cable. None ma’am.
1. Prepare the needed materials.(Ex. RJ45,
Crimping Tool, LAN Tester and UTP
Cable)
2. Strip the outer jacket of the cable by at
least 2 inches using the wire stripper.
3. Untwist the twisted pair wires.
4. Arrange the wires of the desired sequence
(T568A, T568B & Cross Over).
5. Cut the wires in 0.5 inch. (The students are attentively
6. Slowly insert it to the RJ45. listening)
7. Using the Crimping Tool, lock the RJ45
to the UTP Cable.
8. Then Check the created cables using the
LAN Tester.

INTEGRATION
So now, let’s apply what you have learned. Same

cable, you will list down the steps on how you
have created the network cable. Each group will
present their work in front.

Before you start, let’s make a criteria to

assess your work.

(will make a criteria with the agreement of the

students)
Yes ma’am!
Do you agree with these criteria?
The students make a network cable.
You will be given 10 minutes to do that.

. Generalization/ How did you find your activity in network Ma’am doing cabling is difficult
Valuing cabling? speci ally that this was our first time
doing network cabling.
Yes, Francis

Thank you for sharing.

Cabling for the first time is really tough but if you
practice a lot you will find it very easy the next
time you do it.

Can you now identify and perform the steps in Yes ma’am we can now identify and
making a working straight through LAN cable? perform the steps in making a working
straight through LAN cable.
What do you think is the importance of making a
network cable in real life situation?
Ma’am I think the importance of
cabling is that, it makes the connection
for each computer easier and faster
Very good! That is correct. unlike during the times networking
was not yet invented.
Are there still any learning gathered?

Ma’am we are doing network cable

Direction: In the box below are steps in Network cabling. Provide the correct sequence by writing
numbers from 1 to 9 in the space provided. (8 points)

Crimp
Trim wires to size
Attach connector
Arrange wires
Check
Strip cable end
Test
Untwist wire ends

Give at least two concrete importance cabling in our daily lives interaction. (2 points) 1.
