Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our dear
learners, can continue your studies and learn while at home.
Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are
carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide
you step-by-step as you discover and understand the lesson
prepared for you.
Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons
in each SLM. This will tell you if you need to proceed on
completing this module or if you need to ask your facilitator or
your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson.
At the end of each module, you need to answer the post-test to
self-check your learning. Answer keys are provided for each
activity and test. We trust that you will be honest in using these.
In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teacher
are also provided to our facilitators and parents for strategies and
reminders on how they can best help you on your home-based
learning.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks
on any part of this SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in
answering the exercises and tests. And read the instructions
carefully before performing each task.

Let Us Learn!

This module was designed and written with you in


mind. It is here to help you master how to use prepositions
to, from, below, above) correctly in sentences. The scope
of this module permits it to be used in many different
learning situations. The language used recognizes the
diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are
arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course.
This module has two lessons:
• Lesson 8 – Prepositions ( to and from)
• Lesson 9 – Prepositions (below and above)
After going through this module, you are expected to:
1. identify the preposition in a sentence (ENG2G-IVg-h-7);
2. use the prepositions (to, from, below, and above) to
complete the sentence; and
3. write a sentence with a preposition.

“Church Day”

One Sunday morning,


Tina’s family is going to
church. Tina’s house is just
meters away from the
church. Inside the church
Tina saw a huge
chandelier above the
ceiling. There are also
portraits on the wall and flowers below the stage. Tina is
very excited to listen to the mass.

Read the each sentence below. Put a happy face


☺ if the sentence happened in the story and put a sad
face  if the sentence did not happened in the story.

Prepositions are words that we use before nouns
or pronouns to show their relationship with other
words in a sentence. Most frequently occurring
prepositions are in, on, under, over, to, from, below,
and above. In your previous lessons, the other
prepositions were already discussed.
Prepositions “to” and “from” are used to show
direction of movement to and from a fixed point.

Examples:

The family went to the mall. The family went home


from the mall.

Belle went to the forest. Belle went home from


the forest.

“A Day in the Forest”


By: Princess C. Piator

One Sunday morning, the air is so refreshing. Mr. Sun


is shining brightly above the clouds. Belle decided to go
for a walk into the forest to breathe some fresh air. While
walking to the forest, she saw a lot of trees below the
clouds. There are also birds flying in sky. She looked up to
the top of the trees and saw a lot of birds lying in their
nest. There are lions resting below the shade of the trees.
The monkeys are happily climbing on the trees. There are
bugs above the leaves and bees above the flowers. There
are also butterflies flipping its wings between flowers. Belle
went home with a smile on her face.

Prepositions are words that we use before nouns or
pronouns to show their relationship with other words in a
sentence. Prepositions below and above are used to
indicate the locations or position of objects.
Above is used when the object is in a higher position.
