Week 1 Measuring Intrument 110723
LEARNING PLAN
PREVIEW
(Subject Area, Lesson Title/Topic, LCs, Day, Learning Objectives, Related Core Values, Essential Question)
Learning Competencies:
The learners should be able to….
understand the common measuring instrument in technical drafting.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to…
explain the functions and proper use of each measuring instrument.
develop responsibility in handling and maintaining drafting tools.
use measuring instruments to accurately measure lengths, angles, and distances.
Essential Question:
1. How does the selection and proper use of measuring instruments impact the accuracy and
clarity of technical drawings?
PREPARE
(Hook-Routines, Preliminary Activities, Motivation)
Routines:
● Prayer
● Greetings
● Checking of Attendance
Instruction:
1. The class will be divided into small groups (2-3 students).
2. Each group will be presented a mystery box that contains different measuring instrument.
3. The members will work together to identify the measuring object without opening the mystery
box, they need to predict which measuring instrument might be needed for each projection.
4. After the group predicted the measuring instrument, they are allowed to open the mystery box to
identify the actual measuring instrument.
5. The group will briefly discuss the function of each tool.
PROBE
(Exploration Activities)
Instruction
1. Prepare the materials needed for the activity.
2. Create a 3D cube with measurement of each side of 6”x6”x6”
3. Label all the 6 principal view
PROCESS
(Explanation of concepts and skills, deepening of understanding)
In mechanical drafting, there are several essential measuring instruments used to ensure precise and
accurate drawings.
Basic Measuring Instruments:
Ruler: This is a fundamental tool for measuring straight lines. In drafting, metric rulers are preferred for
consistency, but imperial rulers might be used depending on the situation.
Tape Measure: For measuring longer distances, a tape measure becomes necessary. Similar to rulers,
metric tapes are generally used in drafting.
Drafting Specific Instruments:
Triangles: These come in various angles, but the most common in drafting are 30/60/90 and 45/45/90
triangles. They are used for drawing precise horizontal, vertical, and angled lines.
Compass: This instrument allows you to draw circles and arcs of various sizes. Drafting compasses often
have features for precise adjustments.
Protractor: For measuring and drawing angles, a protractor is essential. They typically have markings in
degrees to accurately represent angles in your drawing.
Additional Instruments:
Dividers: These function similarly to compasses but are used for transferring measurements or marking
equal distances.
Scalers: These specialized rulers come with multiple scales etched on their sides. They allow you to
enlarge or reduce the size of an object while maintaining proportional accuracy in your drawing.
PRACTICE
(Skills development, mastery of skills activities, post-learning assessments)
PERFORM/PRODUCE
(Authentic Activities for meaningful application of skills and understanding, Self-Assessment, Meaningful Closure)
Rating Scale:
4 - Excellent: I can consistently perform this skill with accuracy and ease.
3 - Good: I can perform this skill most of the time but may need some review.
2 - Needs Improvement: I am still learning this skill and need more practice.
1 - Not Yet Achieved: I need significant help to perform this skill.
Measuring Instruments:
I can identify the following measuring instruments:
1. Ruler (Metric and Imperial)
2. T-Square
3. Triangles (30/60/90 and 45/45/90)
4. Protractor
5. Compass
6. Divider
7. Scale Ruler
Using the Instruments:
8. I can accurately measure distances in millimeters, centimeters, inches, and feet.
9. I can use a T-square to draw straight horizontal lines.
10. I can use triangles to draw vertical and angled lines.
11. I can measure and draw angles using a protractor.
12. I can use a compass to draw circles and arcs.
13. I can use dividers to transfer measurements and accurately divide lines.
14. I can select and use the appropriate scale on a scale ruler to accurately measure and depict features
on a drawing.
Exit Ticket:
Briefly describe one challenge you faced while understanding the basic measuring instrument and
how you overcame it.
