DLL Fibonacci Sequence

The document outlines a daily lesson plan for teaching a mathematics class about the Fibonacci sequence. It details the objectives, content, procedures, and activities that will be covered in the lesson. The lesson introduces the concept of the Fibonacci sequence, provides examples of the pattern in nature, and has students work through practice problems to find future terms and identify Fibonacci sequences.

Subject: Mathematics 10 Quarter 1 Topic: Fibonacci Sequence

October 2, 2023 Einstein 7:15-8:15; Galileo 8:15-9:15; Maxwell
Date: Time:
10:30-11:30; Newton 3:30-4:30

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of sequences, polynomials and
polynomials equations.
B. Performance Standard The learner is able to formulate and solve problems involving sequences, polynomials and
polynomials equations in different discipline through appropriate and accurate
representations..
C. Learning Learning Competency: Illustrates other types of sequences (Harmonic, Fibonacci) (M10AL-If-
Competencies/Objective 1)
s Learning Objectives:
1. Determine if the given sequence illustrates Fibonacci sequence;
2. Find the next term of the Fibonacci sequence
3. Show appreciation of generating and recognizing patterns as important skills needed
to understand concepts of Fibonacci sequence thru giving the next term
II. CONTENT Fibonacci Sequence

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing Previous Assignment:
Lesson or Presenting the 1 1
New Lesson Find the sum of an infinite geometric sequence 6, 1, , ,…
6 36
Answer: S = 36/5

Drill:

Mechanics
1. Every line of each row will answer the corresponding item by simply give a thumbs up for
arithmetic, thumbs down for geometric and a fist for neither.
2. Each correct item is equivalent to 1 point, and
3. the row with the most correct answer will get 5 claps.

State whether the given sequence is arithmetic, geometric or neither.

1. 8,16,24,32
2. 1/3,1/9,1/27,1/81,…
3. 1296,216,36,6
4. 8,13,21,34,55,…
5. 1,1,2,3,5,8

Answer Key
1. Arithmetic
2. Geometric
3. Geometric
4. Neither
5. Neither
Literacy: The teacher will allow the student to read the poem and let them answer the
questions that follow.

1. Have you observed if there is a pattern?

2. How does the number of syllables of the two preceding relates to the number of syllabus
on the third line?
3. Does the pattern coincides to the main idea of the poem?
4. What is the main idea of the poem?

B. Establishing purpose of The teacher says “There is another type of sequence which is dominantly found in nature.”
the new lesson
C. Presenting  The teacher will show to the class some pictures.
examples/instances of (Science)
the new lesson

 The teacher lets the class take a look at the picture. Let them observe the figures
carefully. Ask them the following questions.
a. What have you observed?
b. Do you see any relation between the given numbers in the pictures especially in the
last.?
c. What pattern were you able to form?
Possible Answers
a. Patterns
b. Yes
c. The next term is the sum of the two preceding terms.
 Through their answers, the teacher will tell the class that what they have seen are
examples of a Fibonacci sequence.
Fibonacci Sequence – is a sequence where the first two terms are either
both 1¸or 0 and 1.
 Tell the class that Fibonacci sequence owes its name to one of the greatest
mathematicians of the 12th century , Leonardo of Pisa, Italy. He was later known as
Fibonacci taken fron the word” Fils de Bonaccio” meaning son of Bonacci. Actually this
sequence was noted by Fibonacci while he was working with the problem of rabbits.

D. Discussing new concepts The teacher lets the students in groups of 5, do the following task.
and practicing new skills
#1

1. Give the number of syllables each line,

2. How many syllables must be in the 9th line?
3. Notice Every third term is divisible by what number?
4. How about the fourth term?
5. Do you think that every fifth term is divisible by 5?

Answer Key

1. 1st line is 1, 2nd line is 1, 3rd line is 2, fourth line is 3, fifth line is 5, sixth line is 8, 7th line is
13 and the eight lines is 21
2. the syllables in the 9th lines must be 34
3. Every third term: 2, 8, … Every third term is divisible by 2
4. Every fourth term: 3, 21,¸, …Every fourth term is divisible by 3
5. Yes

E. Discussing new concepts Consider the Fibonacci sequence that starts with 0. Would there be the same findings with
and practicing new skills the Fibonacci sequence that starts with 1? Why?
#2
Answer Key
No, because they have different term position.
F. Developing Mastery Working in pairs, the teacher lets the students answer the following exercise.
(Leads to Formative A. Which of the following illustrates Fibonacci sequence?
Assessment) 1) 2, 2/5, 2/25,…
2) 1/2,1/4,1/6,1/8,…
3) 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,..
4) 0,1,1,2,3,…
5) 5,8,13,20,33,…
Answer key
The following illustrates Fibonacci sequence
Number 3 and 4
G. Finding practical Begin with one male and one female rabbit. Rabbits can mate at
applications of concepts the age of one month, so by the end of the second month, each
and skills in daily living female can produce another pair of rabbits. The rabbits never die.
The female produces one male and one female every month. The
puzzle that Fibonacci posed was ...How many pairs will there be in
one year?
H. Making Generalizations The teacher asks the students to summarize the lesson on Fibonacci sequence.
& Abstractions about the
lesson Varied answers drawn from the students.

I. Evaluating Learning The teacher lets the students answer individually the formative assessment.
A. Tell whether the given illustrates Fibonacci sequence or not.
1. 8,13,21,34,55,..
2. 3, 7, 11, 15, 19
3. 0,1,1,2,3,5,…
4. 1/24,1/20,1/16,1/12
B. Find the 12th term of the sequence 1, 1,2,3,…

Answer Key
A. 1. Fibonacci 2. Not 3.Fibonacci 4. Not

B. 144
J. Additional Activities for
application or
remediation
