FUNCTIONS
▪ A function is a rule that associates, with each value of a variable x in
a certain set, exactly one value of another variable y. The variable y is
then called the dependent variable, and x is the independent variable.
▪ Every value of x is associated with exactly one variable of y, then y is
said to be a function of x.
▪ The set from which the values of x can be chosen is called the domain
of the function. The set of all the corresponding values of y is called
the range of the function.

FUNCTIONS
A special relationship in which each input has a single output is often
represented as '𝑓(𝑥),' where 𝑥 is the input value.

𝑓 𝑥 read as "𝑓 𝑜𝑓 𝑥"

FUNCTION IS SPECIAL
▪ It must work for every possible input value.
▪ It has only one relationship for each input value.
A Function relates each element of a set
with exactly one element of another set.

X Y many-to-one one-to-many

NOTE
Function – if one intersection that is considered a function.
Mere Relation – if TWO point intersect.

FUNCTION OF A VARIABLE
The most common way to denote a function is to replace y, the
dependent variable, by f(x) - f being the first letter of function.
