Lesson: Quarter 4 Week 4 LAS 2
Activity Title: Read and Interpret Me!
Learning Target: Interprets data presented in a pie graph
Reference: 21st Century Mathletes Textbook Grade 6, MELC (M6SP-IVe-3.6)

To interpret a pie chart, compare groups.
When you interpret one pie chart, look for differences in the size of the slices. The size of a
slice shows the proportion of observations in that group.
Example: Mr. Palma asked 50 Grade 6 pupils if they use the internet during weekends and
how many hours they spend using it. The pie graph below shows the results.
Number of Hours Spent Using Internet
During Weekends
7-9 hours,
0-3 hours, 20%
30%
10 hours
or more ,
14%
4-6 hours,
36%

Using the data above, answer the questions that follow:

1. How many pupils use the 3. How many pupils use the 4. How many pupils use the
internet for 0-3 hours during internet for at least 7 hours? internet for not more than 6
weekends? hours?
At least 7 hours cover the time
30% x 50 = 15 50 usage of 7 hours and above. Not more than 6 hours covers
X 0.30 Based on the graph, there are two the time 0-6, so:
00 percentages which satisfies this
150 condition – 20% (7-9 hours) and (30% + 36%) x 50 = 66% x 50 = 33
+ 0 0___ 14% (10-above hours). To get the
50
1 5.0 0 exact number of pupils:
X 0.66
* Fifteen pupils are using internet 300
for 0-3 hours (20% + 14%) x50 = 34% x 50 = 17
300
2. How much time did grade 6 + 0 0___
spend mostly in using the internet 33.0 0
during weekend? * There were 17 pupils who use
*Most of the pupils spent 4-6 the internet for at least 7 hours.
*Thus, 33 pupils use the internet
hours.
for not more than 6 hours.

Direction: Read and analyze the given scenario. Use the data in the given pie graph to interpret and
answer the questions follow: (Show your solution in a separate sheet of paper)
