General Guidelines

Unit 02 - Networking

1. A cover page or title page should be attached to your assignment. Use page 1 of this

assignment brief as your cover page and make sure all details are accurately filled.

2. The entire assignment brief should be attached as the first section of your assignment.

3. The assignment should be prepared using a word processing software.

4. The assignment should be word processing in an A4 sized paper.

5. Allow 1” margin on top, bottom and right sides of the paper and 1.25” on the left side (for

binding).

Word Processing Rules

1. The font size should be 12 point, and should be in the style of Time New Roman.

2. Set line spacing to 1.5. Justify all paragraphs.

3. Ensure that all headings are consistent in terms of size and font style.

4. Use footer function on the word processor to insert your name, unit, assignment no, and

page number on each page. This is useful if individual sheets get detached from the

submission.

Use the spell check and grammar check function of the word processing application to review the use
of language on your assignment.

Important points
1. It is strictly prohibited to use textboxes to add texts in the assignments, except for the
compulsory information.
e.g.: Figures, tables of comparison etc. Adding text boxes in the body except for the before
mentioned compulsory information will result in rejection of your work.
2. Carefully check the hand in date and the instructions given in the assignment. Late
submissions will not be accepted.
3. Ensure that you give yourself enough time to complete the assignment by the due date.
4. Excuses of any nature will not be accepted for failure to hand in the work on time.
5. You must take responsibility for managing your own time effectively.
6. If you are unable to hand in your assignment on time and have valid reasons such as illness,
you may apply (in writing) for an extension.
7. Failure to achieve at least PASS criteria will result in a REFERRAL grade.
8. Non-submission of work without valid reasons will lead to an automatic RE FERRAL. You will
then be asked to complete an alternative assignment.
9. If you use other people’s work or ideas in your assignment, reference them properly using
HARVARD referencing system to avoid plagiarism. You have to provide both in-text citation
and a reference list.
10. If you are proven to be guilty of plagiarism or any academic misconduct, your grade could be
reduced to A REFERRAL or at worst you could be expelled from the course.

ASSIGNMENT SCENARIO
MadZoo Digital is a start-up company which was established in 2020. They operate on varieties of software
developments & network solutions. The company’s vision is to transform ideas into experiences and help
brands reach aspirational & affluent audiences through data, creative & technology. The company is
expanding their business since rate of requirements are high. They have planned to establish new
departments for the company such as Research & Development, Project management office, Information
Security, Customer Service & etc.

TASK GUIDANCE
You are recruited as a network specialist after you finished your trainings in the company. Assessing on the
networking development process to the organization that includes; the growth of the network, detailing of
the new networking technologies introduced, networking principles, protocols & devices, including benefits
& constraints of networked solutions, the impact of network topology, communication & bandwidth
requirements, maintaining the effectiveness of networking systems, operating principles of networking
devices and server types and networking software.

On your first month of your work, you are tasked to go through in-depth process on designing and
implementing a local area network for the organization considering all the departments. You are supposed
to follow the below steps according to the requirement by the organization.
● A LAN design plan and justification document.

● A fully completed test plan including an evaluation of results and recommendations for
improvements to LAN.
● A proposed and justified maintenance schedule.

● Evidence of an implemented network.

Your LAN design should be well planned and innovative in order to produce an effective outcome for the
specified LAN network. after the process of designing is over.

Below are the details of No of Computers in every department

● Research and Development – 5 PCs & 1 Printer

● Project management office – 3 PCs

● Information Security – 3 PCs

● Customer Service – 2 PCs & 1 Printer

Unit 02 - Networking

TASK 1
You will need to produce a report to the Senior Network Engineer that includes the following:

1. Importance of implementation of networking to MadZoo Digital

2. List some network types that can be implemented in the organization and state the benefits
and constraints of above-mentioned network types. Discuss the standards that can be
applied to the types of networks by justifying to the scenario

3. Define what is network topologies & impact of it and what is network communication by
explaining the rules in the network and justify why the rules are needed. And state Why
bandwidth requirements are needed in network of the organization

4. Introduce and compare common network principles by stating the advantages and
disadvantages of each of them and specify how the protocols enable networked systems to
connect efficiently using these principles. Provide practical situations that are used for these
switching principles for further explanation

5. Considering different topologies protocols select a topology protocol which is the most
suitable to the given scenario in order to implement the client-server architecture in the
organization with relevant diagram. You must point out the choice of this protocol for the
purpose of making effective use of the network considering the scenario given above

TASK 2
1. Discuss how networking devices operate in a network by specifying their uses and it’s functions.
List some common types of servers and state use of each server type and give illustrative
examples

2. Explain the term “Inter-Dependence” and give an illustrative example of this term relating to
network. Define workstation hardware and networking software and explain the Inter-Dependence
of the two. You should give examples for further explanation

3. Explore a range of common server types and give a brief outline of their uses. You must choose
one of these servers, and justify your selection, based on a given scenario regarding cost and
performance optimization

Unit 02 - Networking

TASK 3
1. Prepare a written step-by-step plan of how you are planning to design a Local Area Network

2. Justify your choice of devices for your network design

3. Produce a test plan to evaluate this design for the requirements of bandwidth and cost constraints
as per user specifications

4. Choose network services on your own and install & configure them

5. Design & Schedule maintenance activities to support the networked system

TASK 4
1. Implement a networked system using the design you've developed

2. Conduct verification using Ping and extended ping

3. Record the test results and analyse these against expected results

4. Investigate what functionalities would allow the system to support device growth and the addition of
communication devices

5. Make some improvements, upgrades and discuss the importance of security requirements in your
recommendations
