IP Panorama 2.0 Background
IP Panorama 2.0 is a user-friendly e-learning program that explains, in everyday language, the
relevance and importance of IP issues from a business perspective. Designed to help people utilize
IP in their business strategy, it was created by three organizations: the World Intellectual Property
Organization (WIPO), the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), and the Korea Invention
Promotion Association (KIPA). It was funded by KIPO and created by KIPA, while WIPO provided
manuscripts and qualityassurance.

The idea for IP Panorama goes back to 2004, when KIPO participated in a WIPO forum on small
and medium enterprises (SMEs). After a presentation by KIPO and KIPA, the director of WIPO’s
SME division suggested the development of new e-learning content focusing on intellectual
property for SMEs. This resulted in the creation of the first prototype module of IP Panorama.
IP Panorama
After the success of module one, a total of ten modules were created between 2005 and 2006. IP
2.0 Panorama was officially launched at the 2007 WIPO General Assembly. After that, three more
Introduction modules were added, making a total of thirteen. Then in 2022, WIPO officially launched IP
Panorama 2.0, an updated version of the original IP Panorama program. IP Panorama 2.0
represents a significant leap forward from its predecessor, as the entire program has been updated
to utilize microlearning techniques and feature a modern design, recent case studies, and more.
The original thirteen course modules have been reduced to eight and sub-divided to reflect current
trends in e-learning, with shorter educational segments for mobile-friendly content. IP Panorama’s
method of education has been widely successful throughout the world, as demonstrated by the
widespread distribution of its content. It has been translated into 24 languages, including the
official UN languages.
IP Panorama Timeline
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO),
and the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) jointly developed twelve modules of the IP
Panorama multimedia toolkit in English from 2005 to 2008. Due to the popularity of the contents, an
additional module was later developed to bring the total to thirteen. Then, in 2019, the development
of IP Panorama 2.0 began, and the updated program was officially launched at the 2022 WIPO
General Assembly.
