ANSWERS

1. The worst consequence of poor trash management mentioned in the paragraph is that it can
cause flooding.

The paragraph states that when trash is not properly managed and gets into waterways, it
can block the flow of water. This backing up of water then increases the risk and potential for
flooding, especially during rainy seasons when there is more water trying to drain.

2. Poorly managed trash can impact people's health and well-being:

- It can spread diseases from germs, insects, and rodents.
- It can contaminate drinking water sources, making people sick.
- Sharp objects in trash piles can cause cuts or injuries.
- Trash buildup increases fire risks that create toxic smoke.
- Living around uncollected trash is unpleasant and bad for mental health.
The main idea is that allowing trash to accumulate without proper disposal can make people
ill through various routes of exposure and transmission, as well as create physical hazards
and unsanitary living conditions detrimental to overall health and quality of life.
3. - Pollution of air, water, and soil from leaching of chemicals and toxins from the trash.
- Harm to marine life and ecosystems if trash ends up in rivers, lakes, or oceans.
- Clogged storm drains leading to water stagnation and breeding grounds for
mosquitoes/pests.
- Foul odors and unsightly scenic pollution impacting the local environment and
communities.
- Greenhouse gas emissions from trash that is burned rather than properly disposed of or
recycled.
- Increased strain on landfills filling up too quickly without recycling and proper waste
management.
- Risk of wildlife ingesting or getting trapped in trash, disrupting local ecosystems.
4. It's a combination of limited funds, rapid urbanization, lack of public awareness, inadequate
laws/enforcement, corruption, geographic challenges, and recycling infrastructure gaps that
allow the trash management problem to persist in many countries.
5. recycling reduces the overall trash volumes, prevents clogging and contamination, provides
jobs, conserves resources, and raises public awareness
