Independent learning refers to an individual's ability to take charge of their own learning process,
making decisions regarding what, when, and how to learn. It involves self-motivation, self-discipline,
and the ability to locate, evaluate, and utilize various resources effectively. However, there are
boundaries to independent learning. These boundaries include limitations in access to certain
resources, the need for guidance or clarification on complex topics, and the necessity for occasional
collaboration or discussion with peers or instructors. Additionally, not all subjects or learning styles
lend themselves entirely to independent learning. Some topics may require specialized guidance or
practical demonstrations that are challenging to achieve independently.
In an online class setting, several Internet skills prove beneficial. These include proficiency in
navigating learning management systems (LMS), conducting effective online research, discerning
credible sources from unreliable ones, using communication tools like email or discussion forums,
managing time efficiently while working remotely, and being mindful of online etiquette and privacy.
Additionally, being adept at troubleshooting basic technical issues can prove invaluable in ensuring
uninterrupted participation in online classes.
