Installation of MATLAB:

Members of Leipzig university enjoy free access to the latest version of MATLAB.
In order to connect your uni-ID with MATLAB and download the installation file you will have to
create a MathWorks account first.

1. Create MathWorks Account


1. Go to https://www.mathworks.com/mwaccount/register
2. Use your university email address to create the account.
3. Choose your location and select “Student use” as your use case and create the account.

4. You now have to verify your email address: Got to your inbox and click the link in the
email they sent you.
5. Initialize your account.
6. Your account should be working now.

2. Download MATLAB R2019a


1. Go to https://www.mathworks.com/downloads/web_downloads/
2. Make sure that you are logged in with your MathWorks account.
3. Click “Download R2019a”.

4. Download the installation file according to your operating system. (Windows, macOS,
Linux)

3. Unzipping the MATLAB installer on Linux


Before the installation you will have to unzip the MATLAB installer
1. Open a terminal window (CTRL+ALT+T)
2. Go into your download directory (type: cd Downloads)
3. Type: unzip matlab_R2019a_glnxa64.zip
4. Go into the direction of the installation file. (type: cd R2019a/R2019a)
5. Execute the installation file. (type: sudo ./install)
6. Continue with 4.2.

4. Installation for Windows, Mac and Linux (The proper installation requires internet
access)
1. Open the downloaded execution file. (Only Windows and Mac)
2. Select: “Log in with a MathWorks Account” and click “Next”.

3. Accept terms of license agreement. Select “Yes” and click “Next”.


4. Log in into your MathWorks Account using your university email address and your
MathWorks Account password and click “Next”.

5. Choose installation folder and click “Next”. It is recommended to use the preselected
standard folder.
6. Select the “Academic – Total Headcount” license. (This should be the only license
available.)

7. Choose the installation folder. Make sure you have enough free storage (up to 8 Gb).
8. Choose the packages you want to install. Despite of the preselected products you should
install the Deep Learning Toolbox 12.1.

9. Select whether you want a desktop or start menu shortcut and whether you want to help
improve MATLAB or not and click “Next”.
10. Confirm the installation by clicking “Install”. After downloading the selected products,
MATLAB will be installed automatically.
11. You get the information that there are additional products available with your license.
Click “Next”.
12. Select “Activate MATLAB” and click “Next”.
13. Click “Next” to start activation of MathWorks Software.
14. Select the user that will be using the license and click “Next”.
15. Confirm your selection by clicking “Confirm”.
16. Click “Finish” to complete the activation.
