Chapter 1 Introduction
This installation guide describes how to load and configure Windows
Server 2003 and Trueflow SE.
Note You must install Trueflow on a computer that is
connected to a Local Area Network (LAN).
The instructions in this guide are for a fresh installation of Trueflow SE
on a Dell PowerEdge 1800/2800/2900/6800. If you are not installing
Trueflow SE on a clean Dell PowerEdge 1800/2800/2900/6800, the
installation instructions may not apply.
Note The Dell PowerEdge 6800 does not include an
Ignore this onboard parallel port, required for the Trueflow
note if you security dongle. Therefore, STCA is currently
use a USB recommending the SIIG Low Profile PCI-1P
dongle. ECP/EPP parallel port card. The model number
for the card is LP0404 and the SIIG part
number is LP-P01011. Install the parallel port
card into Slot 11 on the Dell PowerEdge 6800
before proceeding with the instructions in this
guide.

 Chapter 1 Introduction
Chapter 2 Dell PowerEdge 1800/2800/2900/6800
BIOS Setup
The BIOS for the Dell PowerEdge 1800/2800/2900/6800 must be
manually configured. You must disable the Logical Processor setting for
the PowerEdge 1800/2800/2900/6800. For the PowerEdge 2800 only,
you must also edit the BIOS settings for the parallel port or else the
Trueflow parallel dongle will not work (ignore this line if you use a USB
dongle).
To configure the BIOS:
1. Start the computer, then press the “F2” key to start the BIOS
Setup.
2. Scroll down to “CPU Information,” then press the “Enter” key. A
new window will appear.
3. Select “Logical Processor,” then press the right arrow key until
“Disabled” is selected.
4. Press the “Enter” key. The window will close.
If you are using the PowerEdge 1800/2900/6800, skip to Step 9.
If you are using the PowerEdge 2800, continue to the next step.
5. In the Setup window, scroll to “Integrated Devices,” then press
the “Enter” key. A new window will appear.
6. Select “Parallel Port,” then press the right arrow key until “378H”
is selected.
7. Select “Parallel Port Mode,” then press the right arrow key until
“AT” is selected.
8. Press the “Enter” key. The window will close.
9. Press the “Esc” key to exit the BIOS setup.
10. Select “Save Changes and Exit,” then press the “Enter” key. The
computer will restart.

Chapter 3 Preparing for Trueflow Software
Installation
A number of CD-ROMs are required to install Trueflow. Please check that
you have the following software before beginning the installation.
Microsoft Software:
• Windows Server 2003 CD-ROMs
Dell Software:
• Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD-ROM
Adobe Software
• Acrobat Reader (located on the Trueflow SE
Manuals CD-ROM)
Trueflow Software
Note If you received a DVD, it will contain all of the
following Trueflow SE software.
• Trueflow SE Application CD-ROM for Win 1
• Trueflow SE Application CD-ROM for Win 2
• Trueflow SE SPM CD-ROM
• Trueflow SE Manuals CD-ROM
• Trueflow SE Utilities CD-ROM
• FlatWorker SE CD-ROM
• Colorgenius LE CD-ROM
• PageOptimize CD-ROM
• JobArchiver CD-ROM
Note You may also receive a Trueflow SE License
CD-ROM (includes TrapEditor and FlatWorker
SE license, if necessary).
FlatWorker SE includes two versions of FlatWorker SE: ImposeEditor
and FlatWorker SE Full Version. ImposeEditor can be run without a
dongle or license. However, FlatWorker SE Full Version can be run only
after installing a security license and attaching a security dongle to the
computer.
TrapEditor requires a dongle and security license.

Trueflow also requires a security dongle. Check that the dongle is


securely attached to the computer.
PDF Trapeditor requires Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Pro. To save a PDF file with
trapping requires a dongle.

Workflow
The Trueflow software installation workflow is as follows:
1. Configure the RAID array (PowerEdge 2800/2900/6800 only).
2. Install Windows Server 2003 and SP2.
3. Set up the display.
4. Set the administrator password.
5. Load Macintosh File Services.
6. Configure disk drive partitions.
7. Set up system properties (Swap Area and Dump File Creation
Setup).
8. Disable the second network adapter.
9. Install Acrobat Reader.
10. Install the Trueflow server and Sentinel dongle driver.
11. Install the Trueflow patches.
12. Install the Trueflow client.
13. Install the PIF driver.
14. Install the Trueflow SPM.
15. Set up shared folders for Macintosh access.
16. Set up Trueflow system settings.
17. Install RIPFileViewer.
18. Install FlatWorker SE.
19. Install TrapEditor.
20. Install PDF TrapEditor.

 Chapter 4 The Trueflow Software Installation Workflow


Chapter 5 Configuring the RAID Array
This chapter describes the configuration procedures for new PowerEdge
2800/6800 and 2900 systems that have not had the RAID array
configured.
Note PowerEdge 1800 systems do not come with a
RAID array. If you are installing Trueflow on a
PowerEdge 1800, skip to the next chapter.
All new RAID arrays must be configured using these procedures.
The procedures can also be used if you need to erase the existing
configuration and initialize the RAID array.

Dell PowerEdge 2800/6800


The following RAID configuration procedure can be used to configure
the PERC 3/DC RAID array card in the PowerEdge 6800 or the PERC
4/DC RAID array built onto the PowerEdge 2800 motherboard.
To configure the RAID array:
1. Start the computer, then press “Ctrl + M” when the computer
recognizes the PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller.
2. Select “Configure,” then press the “Enter” key. A new window
will appear.
3. Select “New Configuration,” then press the “Enter” key. The
Proceed? window will appear.
4. Select “Yes,” then press the “Enter” key. A list of drives will
appear, which includes all properly installed drives that are
attached to the RAID controller.
5. Select a drive, then press the space bar. The drive status will
change from “READY” to “ONLINE.” Do this for all listed drives.
6. When all the drives are shown as “ONLINE,” press the “Enter” key
to end the selection process.
7. Press the “F10” key to configure the RAID.
8. Press the space bar to select “Array A-00,” then press the “F10”
key to configure the array.

9. To change any setup parameter for the RAID, move to the


parameter, press the “Enter” key, select a new setting, then press
the “Enter” key again.
Configure the RAID parameters, as follows:
• RAID Level: 5
• Size: Total capacity of all drives minus the capacity of a
single drive
• Span: No
10. When you finish configuring RAID parameters, select “Accept,”
then press the “Enter” key.
11. Press the “Enter” key. The Save Configuration? window will
appear.
12. Select “Yes,” then press the “Enter” key.
13. Press any key (such as the space bar).
14. Press the “Esc” key to return to the Management Menu window.
15. Select “Initialize,” then press the “Enter” key.
16. Press the space bar to select “Logical Drive 0.”
17. Press the “F10” key to initialize the RAID array. The initialize
Drives? window will appear.
18. Select “Yes,” then press the “Enter” key.
19. Press the space bar to continue.
20. Press the “Esc” key twice. The Exit? window will appear.
21. Select “Yes,” then press the “Enter” key.
22. You can now restart the computer. If you are going to install
Windows Server 2003 next, insert the Dell OpenManage Server
Assistant CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, then press the “Ctrl +
Alt +Delete” keys simultaneously to restart the computer.

Dell PowerEdge 2900


The following RAID configuration procedure can be used to configure
the PERC 5/i RAID array card in the PowerEdge 2900.
To configure the RAID array:
1. Start the computer, then press “Ctrl + R” when the computer
recognizes the PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller.
2. The VD Mgmt window will open. Press the “F2” key and select
“Reset Config.”
3. Click the “OK” button to delete all the virtual disks created.
4. Press the “F2” key and select “Create New VD.”
5. Select the “RAID Level” field, then press the “Enter” key to view a
list of RAID levels.
6. Select the desired RAID level from the list and press the “Enter”
key.
7. Select a drive(s) in the “Physical Disks” section using the space
bar.
8. Leave the default value in the “VD Size” field in the “Basic
Settings” section.
9. Enter a virtual disk name in the “VD Name” field in the “Basic
Settings” section.
10. Leave the default values in the “Advanced Settings” section.
11. Click the “OK” button in the VD Mgmt window, then press the
“Enter” key.
12. Press the “Esc” key to exit the setup.
13. Press “Ctrl+Alt+Delete” to reboot the system.

Required Software:
• Microsoft Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM
• Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD-ROM
This chapter describes how to install Windows Server 2003 and Service
Pack 1 on a Dell PowerEdge 1800/2800/2900/6800 that does not have an
operating system installed and partitioned drives.
To install Windows Server 2003:
1. Turn on the computer and insert the Dell OpenManage Server
Assistant CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive (if it is not already in
the CD-ROM drive). The CD-ROM will automatically run and the
OpenManage Server Assistant window will appear.
2. Select “English” as the language you wish to use. The Dell license
agreement will appear.
3. Click the “Accept” button.
4. Confirm “English” is selected as the language in the “Select
Language” drop-down list (on the left side of the window), then
click the “Click Here for Server Setup” button.
5. In the “Set the Date and Time” section of the window, set the
correct date, time, and time zone, then click the “Continue”
button.
6. If you are installing on a PowerEdge 2800/6800, leave “Skip RAID
Configuration” selected in the “Configure or Skip RAID” section
of the window and click the “Continue” button.
7. In the “Select Operating System to Install” section of the window,
leave “Microsoft Windows Server 2003” selected and click the
“Continue” button.
8. Set the options in the “Configure Hard Drive” section, as follows:
• Select the file system for the boot partition: NTFS
• Select Boot Partition Size: 12288 MB
9. Click the “Continue” button.
10. In the “Network Adapter(s) configuration” section, leave “Obtain
IP Address from DHCP Server” selected and click the “Continue”
button.

11. Set up the options in the “Enter Configuration Information for:


Microsoft Windows Server 2003” section, as follows:
• Language: English
• Organization: End-user company name
• User Name: End-user company name or manager name
• Product ID: Windows 2003 product key on the outside of the
computer
• Computer Name:Trueflow
Note If there are multiple Trueflow systems on the
same network, you cannot use “Trueflow” as
the computer name. You will have to assign a
unique name to each system.
• Installation Directory: Default folder (“\windows”)
• License Type: Per Server
• Client Licenses: 10 (usually, but check what was purchased)
• Join Workgroup: Selected
• Workgroup Name: WORKGROUP
• Join Domain: Not selected
12. Click the “Continue” button.
13. In the “Operating System Installation Summary” section, select
the “Save Installation Summary at C:\summary.htm” and “Eject
CD Automatically” check boxes, then click the “Continue” button.
14. After copying several files, the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant
CD-ROM will eject. Insert the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM
into the CD-ROM drive.
15. When all files are finished copying, the Windows Server 2003
CD-ROM will eject. Remove the CD-ROM, then click the
“Continue” button.
16. Click the “Finish” button. The computer will restart several
times. After approximately 25 minutes and the third restart, the
Welcome to Windows dialog box will appear.
17. Press the “Ctrl + Alt + Delete” keys simultaneously. The Log On
to Windows dialog box will appear.

18. Confirm that “Administrator” is entered in the “User name” field,


then click the “OK” button.
Note Leave the “Password” field blank.
19. The Dell OpenManage Software dialog box will appear. You
should not install Dell OpenManage Systems Management, so
click the “Cancel” button.

Note We do not recommend installing Dell


OpenManage Systems Management because
previous versions of Trueflow conflicted
with it.
20. A dialog box will appear that confirms you wish to cancel. Click
the “Yes” button.

21. The Manage Your Server window will appear. Select the “Don’t
display this page at logon” check box, then click the “X” in the
upper-right of the window.

22. Restart the computer to complete the installation of Windows


Server 2003. The Welcome to Windows dialog box will appear.
23. Press the “Ctrl + Alt + Delete” keys simultaneously. The Log On
to Windows dialog box will appear.
24. Confirm that “Administrator” is entered in the “User name” field,
then click the “OK” button.
25. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/ to
download Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 and update your
system.

Chapter 7 Configuring Display Properties
This chapter describes how to set up the classic Windows option and
configure the screen resolution.

Changing to the Classic Windows Option


To set up the classic Windows option:
1. Right-click the “Start” menu button in the bottom-left of the
screen, then select “Properties.”

2. The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box will appear.
Click the “Start Menu” tab, then the “Classic Start menu” radio
button.

3. Click the “OK” button. Several icons will appear on the desktop.

Configuring the Screen Resolution


To configure the screen resolution:
1. Right-click the desktop, then select “Properties.”

2. The Display Properties dialog box will appear. Click the


“Settings” tab.

3. Drag the “Screen area” slider to the right to “1024 x 768” pixels,
then click the “Apply” button.

4. The Monitor Settings dialog box will appear. Click the “Yes”
button.

5. Click the “OK” button in the Display Properties dialog box to


close it.
This completes the display configuration.

Chapter 8 Setting the Administrator Password
By default, the “Administrator”Windows login does not have a password.
However, Windows Server 2003 will prevent other computers from
connecting to the Trueflow system if no password is set.
To set the password:
1. Right-click the “My Computer” icon, then click the “Manage”
button. The Computer Management window will appear.

2. In the left pane, double-click Local Users and Groups > Users.

3. In the right pane, right-click “Administrator,” then select “Set


Password.”

4. A warning dialog box will appear. Click the “Proceed” button.

5. A dialog box that will allow you to enter a password will appear.
Enter “screen” as the password in both the “New password” and
“Confirm password” fields, then click the “OK” button.

6. A dialog box will confirm that the password has been changed.
Click the “OK” button.

7. In the Computer Management window, click the “X” in the


upper-right corner to close the window.

Chapter 9 Loading Macintosh File Services
(OS 9 Only)
This chapter describes how to load the Macintosh File Services.
1. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel.

2. The Control Panel window will appear. Double-click the “Add or


Remove Programs” icon.

3. The Add/Remove Programs window will appear. Click the “Add/


Remove Windows Components” icon.

The Windows Components Wizard window will appear.

4. Scroll down, then double-click “Other Network File and Print


Services.”

5. The Other Network File and Print Services window will appear.
Select the “File Services for Macintosh” check box.

Chapter 10 Setting Up Disk Drive Partitions
This chapter describes the procedure for setting up the disk drive
partitions on the Trueflow computer.
Note The disk partitions displayed in this chapter
do not directly correspond to every Trueflow
installation.
The disk drive partitions should be configured as follows:
• Disk C:\ = 20 GB (Operating System)
• Disk D:\ = 10 GB (TRUEFLOW_SYSTEM)
• Disk E:\ = Remaining Space (TRUEFLOW_WORK)
• Disk F:\ = CD-ROM or DVD-ROM Drive
To set up disk drive partitions:
1. On the desktop, right-click the “My Computer” icon, then select
“Manage.”

2. The Computer Management window will appear. Click the “Disk


Management” folder.

3. Right-click the CD-ROM drive (D:) in the lower-right pane, then


select “Change Drive Letter and Paths” from the shortcut menu.

4. The Change Drive Letter and Paths for (D:) dialog box will
appear. Click the “Change” button.

5. The Change Drive Letter or Path dialog box will appear. Select
“F” from the “Assign the following drive letter” drop-down list.

6. Click the “OK” button.


7. The Confirm dialog box will appear. Click the “Yes” button.

installed when using a FPIF interface for output to a recorder.
You should install the PCI FPIF interface card for SCREEN recorders
before you proceed with the steps in this section.

Shared Output Folder Setup


You should set up an “Output” shared folder in the “General” folder on
the “TRUEFLOW_WORK” disk partition, then specify this folder as an
output folder in Trueflow. This will allow the customer to output data to
this folder.
Note The Trueflow service should be stopped and
the MaintenanceTool window opened before
proceeding with this procedure. If you have
just installed the Trueflow license, as described
in the previous section, the service should be
stopped and the MaintenanceTool window
should be open. If you have not just installed
the Trueflow license, follow steps 1 to 5 in the
previous section.
To set up the output folder:
1. In Windows Explorer, double-click TRUEFLOW_WORK (E:) >
General.

2. Select File > New > Folder to create a new folder, then name the
folder “Output.”

This procedure describes how to add a recorder to the Trueflow system.
This procedure also describes how to register the SPM to the recorder.
The SPM must be registered to the recorder, so follow every step of this
procedure.

just set up the Trueflow output folder, as

This chapter describes how to install FlatWorker SE, the FlatWorker SE
patch, and the FlatWorker SE license.
There are three versions of FlatWorker SE, which are licensed differently,
although the software is identical.
The versions are:
• ImposeEditor: This can be installed on any computer running
Windows 2000 Professional/Server. This software is not
protected.
• PlateEditor: This requires a dongle.
• FlatWorker SE Full Version: This requires a dongle and a
license. If you install this version, you must follow the license
installation instructions at the end of this chapter.

FlatWorker SE Installation
To install FlatWorker SE and the FlatWorker SE patch:
1. Make sure the DVD-ROM is in the drive and the Trueflow
Installation window is launched.

into the CD-ROM drive.
Double-click Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > TrapEditor >
Program > TRPSETUP.

RIPFileViewer, which can quickly open these PDFs and allows the user to
view individual separations. To allow Mac RIPFileViewer to understand
the file type of these PDFs, the Resource Fork needs to be properly
created on the Trueflow server. Please follow the instructions below for
the proper setting.
1. On the desktop, right-click “My Computer,” then select “Manage”
from the shortcut menu.
2. The Computer Management window will appear. Right-
click “Shared Folders” in the “System Tools” folder, then select
“Configure File Server for Macintosh.”

3. The File Server for Macintosh Properties dialog box will appear.
Select the “File Association” tab, then click the “Add” button.

4. The Add Document Type dialog box will appear. Enter “CARO”
in the “Creator” field,“PDF ” in the “File Type” field, and “Adobe
Acrobat PDF” in the “Description” field, then click the “OK”
button.
Note You must enter a space after “PDF” in the “File
Type” field. The “File Type” must be four letters.

5. In the File Server for Macintosh Properties dialog box, enter


“PDF” (without a space) in the “Files with MS-DOS Extension”
field, select “CARO” in the “With Macintosh Document Creator
and Type” section, click the “Associate” button, then click the
“OK” button.

6. Close the Computer Management window.

Configuring Windows Server 2003 File Sharing


Permissions
You must change permissions to allow all users to access the following
shared folders on the Trueflow server:
• General
• HFRoot
• Job
• Template
• TrueflowWork

Configuring Windows Server 2003 File Sharing


for Mac OS X
An error message may appear when you attempt to connect a Mac OS X
system to the Trueflow system if you do not set the proper file sharing
authentication.
To resolve this problem, configure the Windows Server 2003 system to
use “Apple Clear Text” authentication.
To configure Windows Server 2003 to use “Apple Clear Text”
authentication:
1. Right-click the “My Computer” icon on the desktop, then select
“Manage.”The Computer Management window will appear.

2. In the left pane, right-click “Shared Folders,” then select


“Configure File Server for Macintosh.”

5. Close the Computer Management window. The Mac OS X
system should now be able to connect to the Windows Server

Enabling Write Permissions for Macintosh


Shared Folders
By default, Windows Server 2003 sets all Macintosh shared folders as
“read only.”You must disable this setting, so that Macintosh users can
write to the Trueflow system.
To enable write permissions:
1. Right-click the “My Computer” icon on the desktop, then select
“Manage.”The Computer Management window will appear.

2. In the left pane, double-click Shared Folders > Shares.

3. Right-click a Macintosh shared folder, then select “Properties.”

Note To sort the shared folder list and view all the
Macintosh shared folders, click the “Type”
column.
4. The Properties dialog box will appear. Disable the “This volume
is read-only” checkbox, then click the “OK” button.
5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for all Macintosh shared folders.
6. Close the Computer Management window.
