BHOPAL CASE 1984 -

a rjun Singh was the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh when the deadly gas leak from
the Union Carbide factory occurred. It is widely alleged that on the fateful night between 2 and 3
December 1984, when the gas leak occurred, Arjun Singh fled to his Kerwa Dam Palace
(outside Bhopal) to save himself from deadly effects of leaked gas and was not available to
manage the crisis or lead the administration.[11]
Subsequently, the Arjun Singh government's mishandling was criticised by the court in the
verdict on the Bhopal disaster as pronounced by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bhopal on 7 June
2010. The media raised serious questions about his role in the release of Warren Anderson.]
In particular, the pilot of the aircraft in which Warren Anderson flew out of India after the gas leak,
has recorded that the final sanction to permit the flight came from Arjun Singh's office.

A complaint has been filed in a local court in Bhopal for registration of a criminal
case against former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Arjun Singh for allegedly
releasing the then Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson in a wrong manner after
the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy.

A separate complaint was filed against the then Bhopal Collector Moti Singh and
Superintendent of Police (SP) Swaraj Puri on the charge of facilitating the safe exit
of Anderson from here.

In the first private complaint in Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) R G Singh's court,
advocate Furkhan Khan demanded registration of a criminal case against Arjun
Singh for allegedly allowing Anderson to leave Bhopal in a wrong manner.
Demanding an apology from Congress on Bhopal Gas tragedy he said revelations by a former
CBI official Shri BR Lall about how the then government at the Centre had tried to protect
the Union Carbide management more particularly Warren Anderson, the fugitive CEO of the

3 men assaulted in Bengaluru for raising

An FIR has been lodged against five people for attacking three men for allegedly
raising 'Jai Shri Ram' slogans inside their car. The accused men asked the boys to
chant 'Allah Hu Akbar' instead.
The three youths were holding a flag and chanting Jai Shri Ram while
travelling in the car. During that time, two youths blocked the car and
questioned them for shouting these slogans, also demanding them to say
Allah Hu Akbar. As these people got off the car, those on the bike ran away
to bring more youths to assault them. In that altercation, one person injured
his nose," said BM Laxmi Prasad, DCP Northeast, Bengaluru City.

A case has been registered under IPC Sections 295, 298, 324, 326, 506,
and rioting at Vidhyaranyapura Police Station, Prasad said.

The police said that the three of the five accused involved in the incident
have been arrested. "We will arrest the remaining two soon," Prasad said.

The CBI’s FIR states that Manish Sisodia and other public servants
accused in the case took decisions pertaining to the excise policy 2021-22
without the approval of competent authority with "an intention to extend
undue favours to the licensees post tender".

According to the FIR, at least two payments in crores were allegedly made
to "close associates" of Sisodia by Sameer Mahendru, the owner of
Indospirit, one of the liquor traders involved in irregularities in the framing
and implementation of the excise policy.
The FIR also alleged that Sisodia's "close associates" were actively
involved in managing and diverting the funds collected from liquor licenses
for the accused involved in the case. Sisodia’s associates had collected
around Rs 4 to 5 crores in the two payments, said the FIR.

A total of 15 people, including the deputy chief minister of Delhi were

named in the FIR related to criminal conspiracy and provisions of the
Prevention of Corruption Act. The FIR was based on a reference from
Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, who recommended a CBI probe
into the alleged irregularities in implementation of the Excise Policy 2021-
22.

Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Shipping Shri Nitin Gadkari launched the
Green Highways (Plantation, Transplantation, Beautification & Maintenance) Policy, 2015 at
a function organized in New Delhi today. The aim of the policy is to promote greening of
Highway corridors with participation of the community, farmers, private sector, NGOs, and
government institutions.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that 1% of the total project cost of all highways
projects will be kept aside for the highway plantation and its maintenance. He said that
about Rs. 1000 crore per year will be available for plantation purpose. He also said that this
policy will generate employment opportunities for about five lakh people from rural areas.
He added that there will be strong monitoring mechanism in place by using ISRO’s Bhuvan
and GAGAN satellite systems. Every planted tree will be counted and auditing will be done.
The agencies performing good will be awarded. He called for suggestions from people for
smooth implementation of the policy. He also asked the state governments to start
programmes on similar lines. Shri Gadkari said that 1200 road side amenities will also be
established. The Green Highway Policy will help in making India pollution free, the minister
added. It will also help in curtailing the number of road accidents in India. He said that the
vision of the policy is to provide dignified employment to local people and communities.

Out of 1,622 km long LWE affected Vijayawada - Ranchi route, development of 600 km (net
length 592 km) of State Roads in Odisha (549 km Newly declared NH and 43 km SH), not
covered in any Central or State Scheme has been approved by the Government at a cost of
Rs 1,200 crore on 4th November, 2010.

So far, the detailed estimates for all the 9 packages in an aggregate length of 592 km
have been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,347 crore and works were awarded. The
development on 569 km has been completed at a cumulative expenditure of Rs. 1,053 crore
up to March, 2019.

 One of the biggest scams in India was the 2G scam, in which

telecom minister A. Raja was charged for issuing 2G licenses to
private telecom players at very cheap rates in 2008. No rules and
regulations were followed but only favoritism was preferred while
issuing the license. The scam cost Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the
government. The government kept the entry fee for spectrum
license at 2001 prices. Licenses was also issued to the companies
with no prior experience in telecom. The mobile subscriber base in
India touched 350 million in 2008 from 4 million in 2001.
 Satyam Scam (2009): Indian investors and shareholders were
badly affected by the scam involving Satyam Computer Services.
The Satyam Scam involved Rs. 14,000 crore and was one of the
biggest scams in the corporate world. Former Chairman Ramalinga
Raju was involved in the scam, who kept everything under cover.
He later confessed of falsifying the company’s accounts by US $1.47
billion. Later in the year, 46% share of Satyam was bought by Tech
Mahindra, who absorbed and revived the company.
  Commonwealth Games Scam (2010): A huge amount of money
for preparing and conducting the Commonwealth Games India was
misused in the Commonwealth Games Scam. The total worth of
Commonwealth Games Scam is estimated to be Rs. 70,000 crore.
Again, many Indian politicians, bureaucrats and corporate bigwigs
were involved in the scam. The face of the scam was Suresh
Kalmadi, the Congress party representative to the 15th Lok Sabha
from the Pune constituency. At that time, Kalmadi was the
Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Delhi Commonwealth
Games. Other big-shots involved were Sheila Dikshit, the then chief
minister of Delhi and Robert Vadra. The payments were made to
non-existent parties and prices were inflated while purchasing
equipment, execution was delayed, and so on.
 Coal Scam (2012): With the Coal Scam, the government bore a
loss of Rs 1.86 lakh crore. The CAG presented a report and stated
the irregularities involved in the auctioning of 194 coal blocks. The
government decided not to auction coal blocks between 2004 and
2011. The coal blocks were then sold to different parties and private
companies. This decision led to huge loss in terms of revenue.
 Chopper Scam (2012): This scam is an example of bribery and
corruption in India which involved many politicians, senior officials in
India like former Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal S.P. Tyagi,
and helicopter manufacturer Augusta Westland. The company had
given bribe to get a contract for supplying 12 helicopters worth USD
610 million. A note presented on March 15, 2008 in an Italian court
indicates that the Congress President Sonia Gandhi was also
involved in the scam.
 Adarsh Scam (2012): The Adarsh Housing Scam is related to the
allocation of flats below market rates in a very posh 31-storey
building, the Adarsh Housing Society in Colaba, Mumbai. The society
was made for war widows and personnel of India’s Ministry of
Defence. Over a period of time, rules and regulation were modified
for the allocation of flats. Allegations have been made against three
former chief ministers of Maharashtra – Sushilkumar Shinde,
Vilasrao Deshmukh and Ashok Chavan. Also, the land belonged to
the defence and had been given for the society.

Amar Singh Chamikila – He was a prominent singer in Punjab,

termed by famous lyricist the Elvis of Punjab .

He and his wife Ms Amarjot Kaur was gunned down in Mehasampur,

Punjab on 8 March, 1988 .
After the president rule was abrogated in the nation, no

OWAISI - Owaisi, along with his younger brother Akbaruddin, was booked for
charges related to manhandling the Medak district collector in 2005. [95][96] On 20
January 2013, he was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days, and later shifted to
Sangareddy jail. The case related to an MIM protest on 16 April 2005 against the
demolition of a mosque for a road-widening project in Medak district; police booked
him under various charges including criminal intimidation, rioting, and promoting
enmity between religious groups.[97]
In 2009, a case was registered against Owaisi on the order of Election Commission of
India for chasing and beating up Syed Saleem Uddin, a polling agent of the Telugu
Desam Party (TDP) in the Moghalpura area.[98][99] In March 2013, he was detained for
organising a rally without permission and carrying a gun without a licence in Bidar,
Karnataka.[100] In June 2014, Owaisi is said to have delivered hate speech
against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in seeking the Muslim community's support for
his party.[101][102] In January 2015, Owaisi said that every child in the world is born as a
Muslim, and his parents and society convert him to other religions. He also said Islam
is the real home of all religions.[103][104]
On 7 February 2016, Owaisi surrendered before Hyderabad police and was later
granted bail[105] for an assault by a mob that he allegedly led, carried out against
Telangana Indian National Congress legislators. His close aide and AIMIM Party
social media head, Syed Abdahu Kashaf, assaulted the congress MLC and leader of
the opposition Shabbir Ali.[106]
