1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Project Description

North Central Railway are planning for Construction of 2 Lane ROB

(End to end including approaches) At KM 838/7-9 IN lieu of LC no.4 b/w
BMU-MRE station in PRYJ-CNB section of PRYJ division of NCR, Uttar
Pradesh. The work of plate load test has been awarded to

BHARAT INFRA CONSTRUCTIONS by M/S PRAGATI

CONSTRUCTION CONSULTANTS

The report Presented hereunder, deals with the test results and
their interpretation, estimation of safe allowable bearing capacity
and recommendation, regarding the type, size and shape of
foundation which may be provided for the proposed structure.

1.2 Purpose of Study

The purposes of this study were to evaluate the subsurface

stratigraphy so as to develop recommendations for foundation
design and construction. To accomplish these purposes, the
study was conducted in the following phase:

I Conducting one plate load test at given location and depth at

site.

II Preparing this technical report with foundation design and

recommendations.
BHARAT INFRA CONSTRUCTIONS SHEET NO 2

2.0 FIELD INVESTIGATION

2.1 Plate Load Test

The Plate Load Tests was conducted at given location in general

accordance with IS: 1888. The depth of test was about to ground
level. The test location was given by client as shown on site plan.
Square plate of 450mm x 450mm was used for testing. The dead
load was used to provide the reaction by kentledge.

The dead load was applied in the form of loaded hyva truck. The
loading arrangement is shown separately on figure. The test plate
was placed over a fine sand layer of maximum thickness of 5 mm,
so that the center of plate coincides with the center of reaction
girder/beam, with the help of plumb and bob and horizontally
leveled by a sprit level to avoid eccentric loading. The hydraulic
jack was was centrally placed over the test plate with the loading
column in between the jack and reaction beam so as to transfer
load to the plate. A minimum seating pressure of 70gm/cm2 was
applied and removed before starting the load test.

The plate was loaded by pushing a hydraulic jack against the

dead load. Dial gauges of 0.01mm least count were used to
measure the plate settlement with reference to a stable datum
bar. The load was applied in small increments of about 10.616 ton
on soil. The final load was applied till the settlement of plate
exceeds 25 mm. Each load was held until the time rate settlement
becomes negligible. The results are presented on plate verses
measured displacement of plate on figures.
BHARAT INFRA CONSTRUCTIONS SHEET NO 3

Two supports of reference beam or datum rod was placed over

form ground, fixed with two dial gauges resting on the plate. The
dial gauges were so arranged that settlement was measured that
settlement was measured continuously.

Settlements were observed for each increment of load after an

interval of 1, 2.25, 4, 6.25, 9, 16, 25 minute and thereafter an
hourly intervals to the nearest of 0.02mm

3.0 BEARING CAPACITY OF SOIL

Based on the plate load test conducted at site following test

result has been observed-
ground level: 99.380 MM
Test level: 98.130 MM
According to Graph the settlement did not exceed 25mm before
final load. Hence soil is safe for 21.57 t/m2
Net Safe bearing capacity of soil: 21.57 t/m2

4.0 SUMMARY OF PRINCIPALFINDINGS

BHARAT INFRA CONSTRUCTIONS Carried out one plate load test for
Construction of 2 Lane ROB (End to end including approaches) At KM
838/7-9 IN lieu of LC no.4 b/w BMU-MRE station in PRYJ-CNB section
of PRYJ division of NCR, Uttar Pradesh.
Following are the foundation recommendations.
ground level: 99.380
Test level: 98.130
Net Safe bearing capacity of soil: 21.57 t/m2
