REPORT ON MICROSOFT AZURE

WHAT IS MICROSOFT AZURE?

Microsoft Azure, commonly referred to as Azure, is a cloud computing platform and service
offered by Microsoft. It provides a wide range of cloud-based services, including computing,
storage, networking, databases, analytics, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and
more. Azure is one of the leading cloud platforms in the world, competing with other major
cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
It easily integrates with Microsoft products making it very popular using Microsoft Products.

HOW DOES MICROSOFT AZURE WORK?

When customers subscribe to Microsoft Azure, they gain access to a comprehensive array of
services accessible through the Azure portal. These services encompass a wide spectrum of
cloud-based solutions, including virtual machines (VMs), databases, storage, networking, and
more. With these resources, subscribers can create and configure their cloud-based
infrastructure to host applications, store data, and run various workloads.

Moreover, the Azure ecosystem extends beyond Microsoft's own offerings. Third-party
vendors often make their software directly available within Azure, offering customers
additional options and flexibility. These third-party applications cater to diverse needs,
ranging from specialized tools for data analytics to security solutions and beyond. The pricing
for these third-party applications can vary significantly, typically involving a subscription fee
for the application itself, along with usage charges for the underlying infrastructure used to
host the application.

In essence, Microsoft Azure serves as a versatile cloud platform, enabling customers to

harness a rich selection of services and resources, both from Microsoft and trusted third-party
providers. This versatility empowers organizations to build, deploy, and manage their cloud
environments efficiently, tailoring them to their unique requirements while also
accommodating a wide spectrum of applications and services to meet their business needs.

Microsoft provides the following five different customer support options for azure:

 Basic

 Developer

1
 Standard

 Professional Direct

 Enterprise(Premier)

These customer supports plans vary in terms of scope and price. Basic support is available to
all azure accounts, but Microsoft charges a fee for the other support offerings. Developer
support is available to all azure accounts, but Microsoft charges a fee for the other support
offerings. Developer support costs$29 per month, while standard support costs$100 per
month and professional direct supports is $1,000 per month. Microsoft does not disclose the
pricing for enterprise support.

WHAT IS MICROSOFT AZURE USED FOR?

Microsoft Azure boasts a wide array of resources and services, resulting in diverse use cases.
Among its popular applications is running virtual machines or containers in the cloud,
suitable for hosting infrastructure components like DNS servers, Windows server services
such as IIS, and third-party applications. Azure supports various operating systems, including
Linux.

2
Another common use case involves Azure serving as a cloud database hosting platform.
Microsoft provides options for serverless relational databases like Azure SQL, as well as non-
relational databases. Additionally, Azure plays a pivotal role in backup and disaster recovery,
with many organizations leveraging Azure's archival storage for long-term data retention and
disaster recovery needs. This versatility makes Azure a valuable solution for a range of
computing and data management scenarios.

AZURE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

Microsoft sorts Azure cloud services into nearly two dozen categories. Each category can
include numerous specific instances or service types. The most popular service categories
include the following:

 Compute: These services enable a user to deploy and manage VMs, containers and
batch jobs, as well as support remote application access. Compute resources created
within the azure cloud can be configured with either public IP addresses or private
IP addresses, depending on whether the resources needs to be accessible to the
outside world.

 Mobile: These products help developers build cloud applications for mobile devices,
providing notification services, support for back-end tasks, tools for building
application program interfaces (APIs) and the ability to couple geospatial context
with data.

 Web: These services support the development and deployment of web applications.
They also offer features for search, content delivery, API management, notification
and reporting.

 Storage: This category of services provides scalable cloud storage for structured and
unstructured data. It also supports big data projects, persistent storage and archival
storage.

 Networking: This group includes virtual networks, dedicated connections and

gateways, as well as services for traffic management and diagnostics, load balancing,
DNS hosting and network protection against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS)
3
attacks.

 Media and content delivery network (CDN): These CDN services include on-
demand streaming, digital rights protection, encoding and media playback and
indexing.

 Integration: These offerings ensure only authorized users can access Azure services
and help protect encryption keys and other sensitive information in the cloud.
Services include support for Azure Active Directory and multifactor authentication.
