Skill Assessment: Tableau
In this exercise, you will work on the data from the CFI course Tableau Fundamentals Case
Study. However, there is a new dimension of the data that the owners of E-Commerce want you to
explore - the Bureau of Economic Analysis' definition of the US regions bea_regions.xlsx.
Part I. Data Model. Using the combined CFI and BEA data, comment on the following questions in
your report:
Which column seems to contain some null values?
Are there any duplicate order IDs in the fact table?
How many payment providers are there?
Part II. Dashboards.
Recreate the dashboards from the case study. However, instead of the state-level definition of the
region, use the BEA's classification
Use them to answer the following questions:
o What is the Gross Revenue total in the dataset?
o What is the overall Profit % in the dataset?
o What is the Order Value Avg for the whole dataset?
o What is the Gross Revenue in Ohio (with no filters applied)?
o In what month was the proportion of promotions the lowest (with no filters applied)?
o What was the lowest-performing product in the lollipop?
Create a visual of the gross revenue by promo type: different types of promotions and no
promotion.
Furthermore, explore other dimensions of the data: shipping type, payment type, and type of
promo, by state and then by the BEA region.
Part III. Interactivity
Replicate the parameters from the Case Study.
Add the options to allow exploring new dimensions: shipping, payment, and promo type.
Submission guidelines:
Format of Submission: Your assignment is to be submitted as two separate files:
o A Word document containing your report.
o Your Tableau workbook (.twbx file).
Report Structure:
o Introduction: Begin your report by addressing the questions outlined in Parts I and II.
Present your responses in bullet points for clarity.
o Analysis: Following the introduction, dedicate one page (excluding visuals) to analyze
trends, patterns, and observations derived from your Tableau visuals. This section should
weave together your data insights into a coherent narrative.
Visualizations:
o Export visuals from Tableau that are relevant to your analysis as images.
o Attach these images to your report in the appendix section. Ensure each visual is clearly
labeled and referenced within the analysis section of your report.
