NOTES :
Purpose :
The result of the interference is that the Navigation VOR Course Indication Needle swings
to an extreme off course position. When the pilot de-activates the transmitter, the VOR
Course Indication Needle swings back to its original position. If the VOR Navigation
System is coupled to an autopilot, the course indication needle swing can cause an
unexpected and undesirable wing rolling and leveling action of the aircraft.
Collins Avionics Division of Rockwell International has made arrangements with specific
Collins Service Centers to modify the VIR-350 and VIR-351 Navigation Receivers. A
modified receiver minimizes interference and course indication needle swing. A list of
affected receiver Serial Numbers is contained in this Service Bulletin.
Instructions :
1. Check the Serial Number of the VIR-350 or VIR-351 installed in the aircraft.
2. If the Serial Number is not one of the affected serial numbers listed after these
instructions, no further action is necessary. Make a log book entry that this
Service Bulletin has been complied with.
3. If the Serial Number is an affected serial number, contact a Collins Sales/Service
Office, Customer Service Representative (See List provided in this Service Bulletin)
to make arrangements to have the receiver modified.
4. The VIR-350 will have the letter “A” and the VIR-351 will have the letter “B”
stamped after the serial number on the back plate after the modification has
been completed.
