Interview Question & Answers

1. Why are you interested in studying this course?

Ans:The sector science always interested me a lot from my childhood. I have been
a 2000’s kid so I grew up seeing the revolution of technology. I have seen the
society evolving on the weight of technology. The world has change a lot &
science was the driving factor behind that. When I was a child I used to watch a lot
of cartoons & they used to amaze me a lot. I was surprised to see how cartoons can
be a thing, how can it work without any physical presence. As I grew up my
interest grew in that sector & I started to reseach about it. I came to know that this
type of things is being created with the help of computer science. That was my first
introduction to that sector. Thinking about my personal interest I decided to pursue
my career as a science student & completed both of my secondary & higher
secondary from science group. After that I gave admission test in several
universities in my country for my bachelor program but unfortunately I wasn’t able
to get into them with my preferable subject. Many suggested me to get admitted in
other subjects but my passion was with computer science so I decided not to pass
on my dreams. If I can’t get it in my country I will try overseas that was my plan.
But the education system & quality of our country is different than most of the
countries in the world. So I decided to pursue a diploma degree in computer
science in order to gain a prior knowledge about the subject so that if I go abroad I
wouldn’t have to face any problems regarding this subject. I have learnt the basics
of computer science in that course. So there was my personal interest in computer
science. Now personal interest doesn’t always satify you financially so I had to
look for the financial possibilities too. It is pretty well known in the world that
computer science right now is one of the top subject in the world if not the best.
We are living in the era of technology so the need for it know no bounds. From
morning to night technology is everywhere. Even when people are sleeping
technology doesn’t rest. It works 24/7. From the communication to living to eating
to transportation technology is everywhere. So because of the range it holds there
is a lot of opportunities in this field. As it is regarded as one of the best job sector
in the world it certainly can satisfy me financially. So thinking about the financial
& personal interest this is a dream subject for me.
2. What are your reasons for choosing this university compared to other
institutions?
Ans: UK is the land where universities like Oxford & Cambridge are which is kind
of a myth for us because we don’t have much access to such universities in our
lifetime. But other than these two UK holds many more world class universities
that is recognised worlwide & regulalry features in various world university
rankings. My preferred choice University of Portsmouth is also one of them.
Although I did researched about the likes of London South Bank University,
University of Greenwich, Brunel University London, University of Liverpool etc.
but decided to stick with University of Portsmouth. I have considered a few things
while making a decision. I have considered the university ranking, tution fees,
living arrangement and the potential situation in the university. As I said earlier
that UK has many world class universities so naturally they are quite up ahead too.
All of these universities I named held a quite higher position in rankings. Both
Brunel & university of Liverpool is higher in rankings than Portsmouth but the
difference is not very big. As for South Bank & Greenwich, both of them is
considerably lower in rankings than University of Portsmouth. After the rankings I
considered the tution fees & found out the tution fees to be more favourable in
University of portsmouth. Although the difference isn’t big with Brunel but it is
still more. University of Liverpool has even more higher tution fees which would
be pretty hard for me to afford. So basically I was left with two options which was
Brunel & Portsmouth. It was like a toss of coin but finally I considered Portsmouth
as it outside London. Although most of the students prefer London as it is a mega
city but I feel that sometimes it can be a bit chaotic too. Also as it is a mega city,
the cost is much higher compared to other cities in UK. So after making some
research I found the city of portsmouth better equipped for me to study. It is much
quieter than London & to study a queiter place is a necessity for me. That’s why I
decided to go for University of Portsmouth.
3. Why do you wish to study in the UK rather than other countries?
Ans: When I decided that I want to pursue my further study in abroad I searched
for the best suitable country for me. As the most popular destination for
international students are USA, Canada, UK, Australia etc I also enquirred about
those. But after considering few main facts I realised that UK is best option for me.
All of these countries can provide me world class education & UK is not any
different from that. In fact UK is probably the best of the best. But still I could
have chose either of these countries considering their education. But while I am
studying I will also have to think about my living too. And in this particular
department UK can offer me better life experience than other countries I feel.
Because UK historically has been a attractive place for students as it is one of the
oldest countries to invite international students to study there. As they have a rich
old history of dealing with international students they certainly understand the
mindset of an international student & what is it they want. So I feel UK is better
equipped to fulfill my needs. Also as we were a former colony of British Empire
there is a lot of similarities between our culture. So it will certainly be much easier
for me to cope with the british culture. UK as a country can be a role model to
many other countries. The world has been shaped by this country a lot. The
industrialisation happened in the 19th century was the pillar of modern business.
You guys are way ahead of us in terms of innovation, creativity & technology. I
mean you guys built Tube in 1863 & in the year 2021 hopefully we will be able to
start our first metro rail service. That shows how far ahead you guys are & I want
to learn the creativity & ideas from UK so that I can use those in my country in
future. One example of that is our current prime minister Sheikh Hasina who
herself was a student of the pretigious Cambridge University. Another fact is the
duration of the courses in UK. The courses are shorter in UK than any other
countries in the world. The sooner I can finish the course the sooner I can start
earning. Also the tution fees will be lesser. Although the courses are shorter there
is no shortage in terms of quality education. Quality remains the same. Although I
will have to be honest with one thing & that is the weather. The weather of UK is
not great. As someone who comes form an Southeast Asian country where the
weather is pretty warm, It will certainly be a challenge. But considering the
valuable things I am getting I can do a bit of sacrifice in that matter. So given the
cultural familiarities & comforting sorroundings UK looked the best option to me.
4. What research have you carried out about your course and its content?
You should be able to discuss the modules that you will study in detail.
Ans: : One thing in particular that impressed me a lot about ICP is their website.
Their website is very neat & anyone can easily find things. During my research, I
read several universities' websites but out of all them ICP’s one was more easily
accessible. So in a way, I was impressed with ICPat the first glance. The program I
intend to do is the Bachelor of Computer science. All about the course details was
given systematically on their website so I was able to find it easily. I will start my
study with a foundation course at ICP. I feel the foundation course will help me to
understand the UK education system better and it will be easier for me to cope with
it. In the foundation year, I will study 8 modules and they are:
 ICT skills
 Interactive learning skills and communication 3
 Mathematics for science and computing
 Engineering principles 1

 Robotics- 20 credits
These course contents are up to date with the modern world and by learning this I
am confident that I can be a valuable employee to any company.

5. How this course will help you with your future career goals?
Ans: Nobody knows what the future will be. But at least one can make a plan just
to be in the safe side of the things. I also have a future plan in my mind which I
want to come true. Right now my sole future ambition is to complete my bachelor
from Brunel University. After the successfull completion of this degree I intend to
come back to my country & be close to my family as much as I can. First of all one
of the main reason for me to go to UK is to educate myself. As the degree from UK
holds much higher rcognition than one in from my country the chance to get a job
gets much higher. In my 4 year of study in UK I will not only get a highly valued
certificate but also will gain some valuable work experience. So this course comes
with a package & with the help of that I can easily get e job in my country. Every
company in the world values the ceritificate & work experinece from UK so it will
be a no brainer. Especially given the fact that our country is growing rapidly & as a
result many companies are opening their branch in here. Those companies give
priorities to the international students more as they are better equipped to handle
that kind of job. So I can easily get a job in companies like mcrosoft, google,
facebook, dream71, tigerIT, transcom limited, newscrad, datasoft & several other
telecommunication companies like grameenphone, robi, airtel, banglalink etc. As
these companies are highly reputed they gives much higher salaries to their
employees too. As a software engineer I can earn upto 17-18 lacs BDT per year
which is a very handsome salary. So I can have a very stable financial life in my
own country. As I can have all of these I will definitely return back to my country
after completing my education. Besides that I have moral obligation & many
unfinished business in here. My parents always wanted the best for me & they have
worked hard to do that. It’s now my time to pay them back in a way although it is
not possible in any way but at least I can make their retirement as smooth as
possible. As the eldest son of the family it is my duty to do that. Moreover I will
have to take care of my other siblings too. So I have things to settle in here & I
need to come back to fulfil those.
6. What you have been doing since you last studied?
Ans: Education is the backbone of a nation & teaches one about the moral of life.
As my family values education highly I always took it seriously & as a part of that
attended my grade-10 exam in 2017 Government Laberatory High School. I
managed to achieve GPA 4.91 (out of 5) from science background in this term.
Following that I got admitted into Ibne Taimia High School & College & sat for
my grade-12 exam from there in 2019. Science was again my preferred choice & I
managed to got GPA 4.08 (out of 5) this term. After graduating from college I
started my preparation to give admission tests in several universities in order to get
myself admitted into one of them. But because of the intense competition I
couldn’t get into any of the university of my choice. I was a bit disapointed at that
time & my head wasn’t clear. So I didn’t knew what to do then. Because the
education system of ours does allow students a second chance but it is only alowed
in the medical sector, not in the engineering or technical sector. As I was always
more interested in the technical aspect rather than the medical one so my chances
were limited. So it was quite evident at that time that if I don’t wanna pursue my
further career in medical I wouldn’t get a second chance. As medical was never my
interest I decided to let go off it. As a science student I was always more interested
in the technical sector hence my preferred subject being IT. So I decided to pursue
a career in that. Than I applied for Computer Science in University of Portsmouth.
7. Where do you hope to live when you come to study with us?
Ans: Well I actually haven’t decided about that anything yet. Although I
researched about the accomodation facilities I can get in internet but haven’t
finalised anything. While doing so I found out that the university also provides on-
campus accomodation although it is unlikely I will stay there. I feel that there is
many facilities there that I don’t need. Those make the cost higher. So if I stay off-
campus the cost would be cheaper. Besides Portsmouth is not a very big city. So
even if I stay off-campus it won’t be hard for me to travel to the university either.
But I don’t know about my visa conditions whether I will get it or not. That’s why
I haven’t contacted anyone about it. But as soon as I get my visa confirmation I
will make the arrangements & will provide the details about my whereabouts to the
authority before I enter UK. I have read the conditions & found out that it is
necessary to inform the authority my address. So I will definitely do that after
cofirming one.
8. Who is paying for your studies and how? Do you know their salary and
where the funds are coming from?
Ans: My father is paying for my studies. He will bear all the cost during my stay in
UK. In order to finance my study he opened a bank account at Bank worth ... lacs
BDT. The total tution fee cost during my stay in UK will be ..... GBP. But my first
year tution fee will be ..... GBP which is roughly .... BDT. Also in addition to the
bank account he has a reasonable amount of properties back home. So the first year
of my cost will be covered easily with the amount in the bank. & after that he is
capable to bear further cost because as a businessman he earns a handsome amount
of money every year. So he has a stable income throughout the year. If I need any
finacial help anytime in UK he can definitely provide me that.
9. What is the address of your university?
Answer: The University of Portsmouth, St. Andrew’s Court, St. Michael’s Road,
Portsmouth, Hampshire, P01 2PR, United Kingdom.
10. How your course will be assessed?

Answer: You'll be assessed through:

 multiple choice tests in-class

 exercises
 written exams
 mini projects
 presentations
 written reports
 review articles
11. What research have you done about the surrounding areas of your
university?
Answer: My university is in the city of Portsmouth which is a port city and the
only island city in the UK. It is in the county of Hampshire and is around 70 miles
away from London. It is not as busy as London and because of it being a coastal
city the lifestyle is kind of laid back, slow and a city with a great vibe. Also, there
is normally a lot of tourists around and there are a few national parks around the
area as well. The city is connected by road, train, air, and sea as well. There are
many museums, music venues, art galleries, literary heritage, and lots of marines
and naval heritage there. Moreover, as a coastal city, the weather remains pretty
good throughout the year as well. So, overall, it is a great city to live in and the
perfect environment for study.
12. Why don’t you want to continue your study in your home country?
Answer: There are several reasons behind that. As for my country, the fees are way
cheaper but the quality of education is not good at all. As a third-world country, we
don’t have the access to the modern method of teaching. Especially the higher
education & the research sector is not up to the mark. We are handicapped most
times when we want to do research or a project. I wouldn’t have to face these
problems in a country like the UK and I will have freedom of study, speech &
creativity. Moreover, there are other problems such as our degrees are not
recognized internationally, course contents are not updated and the study
environment is not great either. Moreover, the influence of student politics is huge
in my country and because of that, there are often fights between the opposition
parties on the campuses which results in the shutdown of the campuses sometimes
resulting in the upholding of the exams. As a result, our course duration becomes
longer and a session jam is being created. So, a 4-year course takes more time and
everything gets pushed back because of that. So, this is not a perfect place to study
and because of these reasons, I decided to continue my study abroad.
