Beijing
Beijing is a huge city with several district articles containing sightseeing, restaurant, nightlife and accommodation listings consider printing them all. Beijing is the capital of the most populous country in the world, the Peoples Republic of China, and also its second largest city after Shanghai. It was also the seat of the Ming and Qing dynasty emperors until the formation of a republic in 1911. Beijing is the political, educational and cultural centre of the country and as such it is rich in historical sites and important government and cultural institutions. The city is well known for its atness and regular construction. There are only three hills to be found in the city limits (in Jingshan Park to the north of the famous Forbidden City). Like the conguration of the Forbidden City, Beijing has concentric ring roads, which are actually rectangular, that go around the metropolis. Beijing was host to the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
Food
Beijing cuisine has salty, rich avors. Pork and mutton have been represented in Beijing cuisine since the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty especially as a result of the dietetic inuence of the Mongol and Manchus. Beijing cuisine has been also much inuenced by culinary traditions from all over China, especially from Shandong cuisine, one of the eight cuisines in China. Now Beijing food does not stress strangeness or uniqueness, only delicious food made from common ingredients with tastes that are very agreeable. Beijing Duck is the number one yummy food in Beijing. Of course, Beijing offers more than its local Beijing cuisine. You can nd almost all the cuisines here coming from other parts of China or foreign countries - French food, American food, Japanese food, British food, German food, Indian food, Muslim food and much more. Read some descriptions and reviews of local restaurants around Beijing before you start to look for the yummy food you like.
Culture
Beijing is just like the thickest encyclopedia, containing the cultural heritage of 5,000 history of China, absorbing the exploding knowledge of the current society, and foretelling the scenarios of the future development. If you are an out-comer, you might nd it hard to locate a portal for merging into the melting pot of Beijing culture, as the culture in Beijing is so complicated and elaborate that it deserves a life time to probe into. As the capital for several ancient dynasties, Beijing owns plenty of royal elements in its cultural system. Beijing people are elegant and proud, but they seldom look down upon people from other regions. Beijing has never repelled outside cultures and fashions. Beijing shows a patient and considerate attitude for any culture so long as it is logical or reasonable to some extent. So you can easily nd the traces of a great variety of cultures nationwide or even worldwide. Nevertheless, Beijing has never given up its noble taste for elite culture. Beijing is never stingy in offering compliments for the true talents.
Architecture
Three styles of architecture predominate in urban Beijing. First, there is the traditional architecture of imperial China, perhaps best exemplied by the massive Tiananmen (Gate of Heavenly Peace), which remains the Peoples Republic of Chinas trademark edice, the Forbidden City, the Imperial Ancestral Temple and the Temple of Heaven. Next, there is what is sometimes referred to as the Sino-Sov style, with structures tending to be boxy and sometimes poorly constructed, which were built between the 1950s and the 1970s.[103] Finally, there are much more modern architectural forms, most noticeably in the area of the Beijing CBD and Beijing Financial Street. In the early 21st century, Beijing has witnessed tremendous growth of new building constructions, exhibiting various modern styles from international designers. A mixture of both old and new styles of architecture can be seen at the 798 Art Zone, which mixes 1950s design with the new.
