Frequency and Spatial Domain, Contrast Stretching, Histogram
Equalization, Introduction to Fourier transform, Low pass and High pass
filtering in spatial domain and frequency domain. Homomorphic filtering
3 Image Restoration: 05
Model of image degradation/Restoration process, Noise models, mean,
order—statistics, adaptive filters. Band reject, Band pass and notch filters.
Estimating the degradation function.
4 Color Image Processing: 03
Color models, Pseudo color image processing and Full color image
processing
5 Wavelets and Multi-resolution Processing: 03
Image pyramids, sub-band coding, Wavelet transform in two dimensions
6 Image Compression: 03
Fundamentals, models, error free and lossy compression, standards.
7 Morphological Image Processing: 07
Morphological operations: Dilation, Erosion, Opening and Closing.
Applications: Boundary extraction, region filling, connected component
extraction, convex hull, Thinning, Thickening, skeletons and pruning
8 Image segmentation: 07
Detection of discontinuities: Point, Line and Edge detection, Edge linking
algorithms, Local, global and adaptive thresholding, Region and motion-
based segmentation.
