Differences between physical Education and sports

The first recorded Olympic Games took place in Athens Greece in the
year 776 BC these games are held every four (4) years
Events held in the first Olympic Games are: running, discus, gymnastics
and javelin

Morden Olympic games


The person that started Olympic Games is Barron Pierre de- Coubertin
in the year 1890 and was revived in 1894
The first Morden Olympic Games was open in the first week of April in
1896 in Athens Greece

Pre historic men


In order to survive pre historic people had to be able to gather food and
protect themselves after a successful hunting trip, they celebrated by
dancing and playing cultural games their life style was very demanding
requiring a high level of physical fitness. They had to be able to run
quickly throw accurately and jump great distances.

Ancient China: People participated in regular physical activity.


Gymnastics was developed to keep the body fit they also participated in
dancing, wrestling and archery.

Ancient Greece: The ancient Greece were lovers of sports and


taught it to their children at school. What children learned depend
upon where they lived, but the activities were wrestling, running,
jumping, discus and javelin as well as military skills, ball games and
riding.

Ancient Rome: Roman sports were very much influence by the


ancient Greeks but they added their own emphasis. Military
preparation was important. Events in ancient Rome include chariot
racing, animal hunting, wrestling and running.

Benefits of sports in Caribbean


To the individual:
1. Opportunity to achieve excellence
2. A way to keep fit
3. Boost self confidence
4. A way to meet with others
5. Provide an outlet for relief
6. Provide a possible career opportunity
To the Society:
1. Healthier people so it reduces health cost
2. Happy and productive population
3. Less deviant behaviour
4. Greater socialisation and bonding together of groups including
families
To the region:
1. Generate income for individuals making them less reliant on
the state
2. Increases economic activity in the region
3. Promotes a Caribbean identity and national pride

Feudalism
The period of feudalism accrued between the ninth and
fourteenth century. A boy who wishes to become a knight
would start his training at the age of seven. He participated
in boxing, running, jumping and swimming.

Renaissance period:
The period of history between the fourteenth and sixteenth
century is known as the renaissance period. During this
period attention was placed on enjoyment and development
of the body. It was believed that learning could be promoted
through good physical health in the school including
dancing, swimming, wrestling, running, jumping, hunting,
fishing and archery.
Major sporting events:
Common wealth games: It was first held in Hamilton Canada in the year
1930 and it is held every four years between the summer Olympics.
Pan American games: Held every four years since 1951 and it is open to
all the countries in the Americas. This currently include 42 nations from
the north and south Americas and the Caribbean.
Carifta: It was first held in 1972 in bridge town Barbados with two
categories of competition under 18 and 20 and it is held every year.
carifta means: Caribbean free trade association
Paralympic games: Is a multi-sport event organize for people with
intellectual and physical disability and was first held in 1948.
World cup: The fifa world cup is the biggest single sport competition in
the world and it is held every four years and it began in the year 1932
