Certificate Program on Problem Solving using Data Structures

& Algorithms – FAQ

Who are eligible to join this course ?

Any student who has done a Programming course in C/C++, Java or Python is eligible
to join this course. But we have restricted it to 3rd year B.Tech students as they will be
sitting for their placements in July 2020. These students need to be knowledgeable in
Data Structures & Algorithms. They will also be sitting for many Coding Tests and they
require a lot of Coding Practice

Can I not do practice Coding by myself ?

Yes. You can. But a course will ensure that you guided in the process. It is easier to learn
when somebody teaches the concepts. When we are left to ourselves it is very difficult
to be self motivated to learn things by ourselves.

What will be the sessions like ?

It will be a mix of theory and practice sessions. Roughly speaking about 2 hours of
theory and 4 hours of practice. All sessions will happen in the Lab and hence you will
get adequate time for practice.

To improve your presentation skills you will also get ample opportunities to come on
stage to talk about the problem solving approaches/strategies

Also every Saturday we will be discussing Interview Questions/Concepts.

process ?

The CSE students have already studied one semester of Data Structures & one
semester of Algorithms. The ECE and EEE students may not know about Data
Structures as they may not have studied it. How do you club all of these
students into one Certificate Program ?

We have thought about these things. We will segregate you according to your
knowledge on Data Structures & Algorithms. There will be separate classes for each
category. For ECE/EEE/Mech sections we will start from the fundamentals. For CSE it
will be at a higher level.

Will I get a Certificate at the end of the course ?

There will be 2 Certificates that will be given.


 Participation Certificate ( Will be issued to all )
 Course Completion Certificate ( Will be issued only to those who clear the exams
)

My CGPA is 6.5. Can I also attend the course ?

We do not restrict the participants based on CGPA. But we want only the students who
are interested to join the program. You have to be sincere and should be willing to put
the extra effort required in attending the sessions, completing the assignments,
appearing for the tests etc.

Which language should I use for Coding ?

You can use any of the following languages – C, C++, Java or Python. We will be using
Code Snippets from a specific language but you are free to code in any language.

Why is Coding very important for your placement ?

AMCAT has recently published a survey. You can see that the percentage of people
who write good quality code that defines the functionality is very very poor. Now
companies are not just into solving problems. They want to solve problems in a highly
efficient manner. You have to analyze algorithms for their Time and Space
Complexities.
