1. Romania and Bulgaria partially joined Europe’s ID-check-free travel zone, called
“Schengen area”. With this addition, the Schengen area now has 29 members. The
Schengen Area was established in 1985. Before Bulgaria and Romania’s admission, it was
comprised of 23 of the 27 EU member countries, along with Switzerland, Norway, Iceland
and Liechtenstein. Bulgaria and Romania joined the EU in 2007. Austria vetoed Romania

2. India plans to build its first privately-managed Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) by 2029-30, granting the operator the
freedom to trade all of the stored oil. India plans to build two new SPRs - the first a 18.3 million barrels cavern at Padur in
Karnataka, and then a 29.3 million barrels SPR in Odisha - with private partners allowed to trade all of the oil locally. So far,
India has allowed only partial commercialisation for its 3 existing SPRs in southern India. India is the world’s 3rd biggest oil
importer and consumer. Expanding oil storage capacity would also help India join the International Energy Agency (IEA),

3. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has extended the last date for geo-tagging of properties till June 30, 2024, in
a move to give another opportunity to taxpayers to register their property with the civic body. If a taxpayer fails to geo-tag
their property, they cannot avail the rebate on the lumpsum payment of tax by June 30 in the current financial year 2024-
25. Geo-tagging of properties refers to assigning a unique latitude-longitude coordinate to a property on a GIS map by
selecting the current location against any Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC) so that all properties have their

6. On April 3, the new generation ballistic missile “Agni-Prime” was successfully flight-tested by the
Strategic Forces Command (SFC) along with the Defence Research and Development Organisation
(DRDO) from the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. The test met all the trial objectives
validating its reliable performance. Agni-P is a two-stage canisterised solid propellant ballistic missile
with dual redundant navigation and guidance system. It has a range of 1,000-2,000km and was tested

7. US space agency, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), has named three companies to develop the
“Flexible Logistics and Exploration (FLEX)” rover for the first crewed missions to the Moon, since 1972. Texas-based
Intuitive Machines, Colorado-based Lunar Outpost, and California-based Venturi Astrolab, have been tasked with
developing designs under a contract with a combined maximum potential value of $4.6 billion. The NASA will choose one
of these companies to carry out a test run for its Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) before the arrival of the crew for the Artemis
5 mission. The FLEX rover is designed to carry two suited astronauts, support scientific exploration with a robotic arm,
perform cargo logistics, and withstand the extreme temperatures at the lunar South Pole. Intuitive Machines has been
given an initial $30 million to advance its prototype, called the ‘Reusable Autonomous Crewed Exploration Rover (RACER)’,

in the Indian athletic circle. She represented India in 4 Olympic Games (1984 Los Angeles, 1988

Games. She was the first Indian track and field athlete to make it to the semifinal stage at the

12. Effective from April 1, central government employees enrolled in the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) are
required to link their CGHS beneficiary ID with their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID. This directive comes

beneficiaries must complete this linking process within 30 days. Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) serves as a

14. Coal is projected to continue as the backbone of the Indian energy system until the next two decades, according to a
report titled “Synchronising energy transitions towards a possible Net Zero for India: Affordable and Clean Energy for All”
released by IIM Ahmedabad. The report was launched by Prof Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the
Government of India. The report asserted that net zero is not possible without substantial nuclear power and renewable
energy generation by 2070. The report said India’s emissions would range between 0.56 btCO2 (billion-tonne of carbon
dioxide) and 1.0 btCO2 in 2070. The report was sanctioned in November 2021 by the Office of the PSA to the GoI with

commodity. India, the world’s third largest energy consumer, imported 74,000 b/d of ethane from the US in 2023. In
March, GAIL (India), ONGC and Shell Energy India signed a tripartite MoU to explore opportunities for import of ethane

signed an agreement to form a joint venture (JV) to establish an Automotive Software

shall be on business IT solutions. BMW Group and Tata Technologies hold a 50% stake

17. Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) have signed an MoU to jointly develop an
indigenous Train Control Management System (i-TCMS), aimed at revolutionising rail communication technology in the
country. BEML and BEL aim to drive innovation and foster self-reliance in the critical domain of train control management
systems. Currently, Train Control Management Systems (TCMS) are predominantly supplied by propulsion suppliers,

programme, HP India in collaboration with IICA will offer 100% scholarships to 75
candidates, enabling them to pursue advanced education in ESG without financial
barriers. The programme is designed to cater to professionals either working in
business and human rights (BHR), ESG, environmental health and safety (EHS), sustainability, and CSR. Candidates must

members of Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB), typically MSMEs. The MoU outlines a roadmap
for collaborative initiatives, including awareness programs, camps, and consultations at
state and district levels, to facilitate the adoption of lean principles and sustainable
practices under the scheme among the LUB members. To ensure smooth
implementation, a designated nodal officer from each organization will act as a single point of contact for all MCLS-related
matters. In this collaboration, NABET being one of the Implementing Agencies for MCLS, will encourage LUB members to

20. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, announced
partnership with Press Trust of India (PTI) to expand its third-party fact-checking
programme in India. Meta includes news agency Press Trust of India (PTI) as a dedicated
fact-checking unit within the newswire’s editorial department. The partnership will
enable PTI to identify, review and rate content as misinformation across Meta
platforms. With the partnership with the PTI, Meta now has 12 fact-checking partners in India, the highest it has in any
country. It covers 16 Indian languages through existing fact-checking partners - Bengali, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam,
Urdu, Punjabi, Assamese, Manipuri/ Meitei, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Kashmiri, Bhojpuri, Oriya and Nepali - besides
English. Since 2016, Meta’s fact-checking programme has expanded to include nearly 100 organisations globally. The focus
